If I'm not mistaken, there use to be the option in panther in the wallpaper prefs under system prefs to have the image stretched, fit to screen, etc. did that option disappear in tiger? i have a wallper that is too big for my screen(15in powerbook). whats the easiest way to get it to fit?

Nope, same as it was.

If it it is cropping oddly, try sizing in a graphics application such as PhotoShop to better match your screen dimensions.

If it's the same dimensions as your screen (ie. 1:1.6), you don't have to do anything, it'll just resize it automatically.

Rather than GIMP, you could just use the more lightweight and similar Seashore.

i looked in my O'Reilly The Missing Manual Panther Edition, and there was a drop down box that allowed you to either have the wallpaper fill screen, stretch to fill screen, center or tile. why did they remove this feature in tiger?

agpetz: You have to click on the picture you want, then it'll give you the option to: Fill screen, Stretch to fill screen, center, or tile.

That's weird. The drop down menu shows up here without even click on the picture. Tiger 10.4.1.

Option still shows for me in Tiger. You did choose folder and select the folder where the art you want is, right? The Apple desktops don't need to be sized.

If you select a picture from the stock, the popup won't show.
It will as soon as you drag any other picture into the prefpane's well.
