I've just noticed Picasa has a nice way of displaying a collage of photos as a screensaver, like this:

Is there any OS X screensaver like that? It shouldn't be that hard with core image, should it... should it? It's really nicer than just showing a slideshow as a screensaver, which is a bit boring after a while.

yeah it could be done in quartz extreme.

one could probably slap something together in quartz composer pretty fast... if one knew what one was doing. which I don't, really.
