Hello all, I want to introduce myself, my name is Abdulah and I am a new mac person, I am a convert from the PC world. I love the mac and what it can do, I just have a question about customization. How do I change some of the icons on the bar at the bottom of the screen ?
Thanks for the help in advance.
Abdulah

Welcome to the Mac and to MacNN! That bar at the bottom is called the Dock. You can easily add or remove its icons. Click and hold, then simply drag it out of the dock to remove it. It will disappear in a puff. To add, just click and hold an icon and drag it onto the Dock.

OK maybe I did not explain better, I want to change the way the icons look, I have seen pics of others desktops and they look different, like the are changed in some way, still the basic icons, finder, dashboard, mail, safari, etc.
Thanks
Abdulah

Find the application you want to change the icon for.
Right-click(control-click) and choose "Get Info" **Note: this is the equivalent of just hitting apple key + "i".
This will open a properties page of sorts for the file in question (in this case an Application).
On the top left of this info page will be the applications icon. if you click on the icon, it will become highlighted with a faint blue ring around it.
Paste whatever icon you want to in its place.
Note, this works with any file in OS X. You can change folder and hard drive icons too, not just appication icons. It's best to use graphics that were specifically created to be icons as they will scale much nicer.
Let me know if this doesn't make sense and I can find you pictures of what I'm talking about.
edit:
Ahh, Apple describes is more nicely:

Some other places to find icons:
KDE-Look
PixelGirl
DeviantArt
Deviant has some good icons here and there that you could convert if needed.
KDE-Look is mostly .png files so I would download a freeware program called i mg2icns that will easily allow you to convert your images to usable icons for candybar.
