This cannot be good news for the American installed council.

Further signs of deep unrest in the region?
Could this have an impact on the legitimacy of this council?

Overall thoughts?

Yeah. We shouldn't have gone into Iraq. How's that for starters?

That is a very good start. I for one would of been all for an invasion if it was justified and had broad international support.

1912, prior to speaking at a campaign stop in Milwaukee, President Theodore Roosevelt was shot. Instead of seeking medical attention, he stood on the leg with the bullet in it and spoke for 90 minutes.

Not only did Roosevelt survive the attack; he also completed his speech! Roosevelt later commented, “ I did not care a rap for being shot. It is a trade risk, which every prominent public man ought to accept as a matter of course.”

This council member who was shot was also the only member who had a position in Saddam's government......so it begs the question, was this some kind of revenge attack, or just an attack of opportunity because of lack of security?

Yup. God knows you don't want a President that only goes to war when it is justified!

Exactly! <whew I hope the US president NEVER starts a justified war. That'd just put a cramp in my style>

Forming an Iraqi government will be difficult since there is no one who will collaborate between the various warring factions who live there.

This woman's assassination is symptomatic of that fact.

Some of you folks act as if the US is concerned about who ends up in charge of Iraq.

It really doesn't matter.

Within 72 hours or so - we could re-take Iraq and remove the government. Again.
