"All governments that support terror are complicit in a war against civilization. No government should ignore the threat of terror, because to look the other way gives terrorists the chance to regroup, and recruit, and prepare. And all nations that fight terror, as if the lives of their own people depend on it, will earn the favorable judgment of history," Bush said.
Oh yeah there's more wars a'comin.
Meanwhile in Afghanistan terrorists have the chance to regroup, and recruit, and prepare.

A war with Iran would guarantee four more years for Dubya.

That quote is one very small portion of the speech, and it's being taken out of context by most news organizations. You can read the full text of the speech here.

Does the transcript fully convey the OVERWHELMING response to the address as this: and lots of coughing?

I found it very interesting that while most world leaders showed Bush the respect to be there while he delivered his speech, Bush and his closest staff did for some reason not feel they should give others the same respect.
What a surprise

What a surprise
See the Bush Patsy thread:
Bush said he insulates himself from the "opinions" that seep into news coverage by getting his news from his own aides. He said he scans headlines, but rarely reads news stories.
"I appreciate people's opinions, but I'm more interested in news," the president said. "And the best way to get the news is from objective sources, and the most objective sources I have are people on my staff who tell me what's happening in the world."
He's obviously just maintaining his objectivity.

Of course! Why didn't I think of that? Now what will his staff tell him? "Mr. President, they were all thrilled by your speech and think you are absolutly fabulous! Now go play with your dog while we draft up the resolution and go over some of that boring intelligence we just recieved about the threat the sinister nation of Iceland poses to our security, OK?"

Did he mention something about international sex trade? What the hell was he talking about? And why is bringing that up all of a sudden?

Perhaps Iraq wasn't really "liberated" after all (since Iraqi's still don't have the right to self-government under US occupation) and Bush is preparing to segway into another diversion regarding the REAL reason Iraq was invaded. Since the Iraqi's still don't have the right to self-government under US occupation.

He's trying to remind the Assembly of some issues on which it and the US couldn't possibly dis-agree, and then conflating those issues with Iraq.

Does Evander Holyfield spend his fight day watching the undercards? Do the Rolling Stones spend their concert-day time watching their opening acts?
The main event was Bush's speech. Besides, Bush and his team have too much work to do to spend an entire day lounging around the UN.

Thanks. I heard it out of context and couldn't figure out why he'd bring that up.

Why are you laughing. That's how it was billed, after all... 'Bush is going to give a speech to the UN'. He went there asking for the UN's assistance.

Because it was funny! A main event would qualify as something 'good' and worth 'watching/listening' to. Take a read of Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva's speech here
Now that was the main event, IMHO of course.

Nope. It was the opening of the 58th Session of the General Assembly. There were many speakers, and Bush was one of them.

That may be the 'official' event, but it sure as heck wasn't billed that way in the US. News outlets around the world pumped up Bush's appearance and subsequent request for assistance.
Even foreign newpapers had Bush's name in the subtitle.
And if Bush went to the UN next week to talk, it would be pumped up again, leaps and bounds more than if Morocco's leader was speaking.
And who did Annan take that long stroll with? And just who did Annan make sure he got photographed making a toast with? Bush.
We saw the back of Chirac's head briefly during the toast. Nobody wanted a picture of him, and Annan knew that.

That was a great speech. He drew much more applause than Bush or even Chirac.

Were you watching the UN speach, or a rerun of Blind Date?

Notice where Mr. Brazil's slot was...right before the main event. That's why so many people were present. Good for Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva for stepping up in prime time and delivering the goods.
Anyone catch Senegal's speech? If you can't recall, it was right after Ukraine's, but before Congo's (afternoon session - 9/24). Anyone?
I didn't think so.

Well this ain't a sporting event. And neither is it a concert. The UN is a forum for nations to talk, it is a place were nations in need of help(like the US) comes to ask for help. And when you are asking for help you should show those who you want to help you some respect. Just like those who won't help sat through Bush's speech and listened, Bush should have done the same thing.
The main event was Bush's speech. Besides, Bush and his team have too much work to do to spend an entire day lounging around the UN.
And the other leaders don't have enough to do? It was not about lounging around the UN, but to listen as one member begged for help. And again if you want others to respect you and help you out, you should listen to what they have to say.

Dear God, you aren't joking. News outlets talked alot about Bush's speech since it was going to be interesting to see how low he would go to get the help he needs. But as kvm showed you it was just yet another session of the general assembly, and one of the things that were discussed(but I guess you missed it) was how the UN should be reformed. Reformed to prevent nation to go on the preventive war train. It was about how much damage the US latest moves have damaged the UN.
And if Bush went to the UN next week to talk, it would be pumped up again, leaps and bounds more than if Morocco's leader was speaking.
In our western hemisphere perhaps, but I hope you are not so egocentric that you think that the US president is the only one who gets attention in the world. Or perhaps that is the reason some americans don't like the UN, that the US is basically treated like all other members of the general assembly.
And who did Annan take that long stroll with? And just who did Annan make sure he got photographed making a toast with? Bush.
We saw the back of Chirac's head briefly during the toast. Nobody wanted a picture of him, and Annan knew that.
So did you hear about the long stroll Annan took with the Icelandic foreign minister? No since your media didn't care. You see what your media wants to show, and you have just proven to us that you rarelly check out the news in other nations. Thank you for making it so obvious.
