It aired on October 29, 2003. I wonder if anyone watched it and what they thought of it. I thought it was very interesting, but I don't know how much of what was revealed has already been reported on elsewhere.
Certainly, the Bush's close business relationship with the Bin Laden's is disturbing.
"The Fifth Estate" is like Canada's "60 Minutes."
They've posted much of the material on their website. There is lots to read.

Robert Baer:
Robert Baer served with the CIA for 21 years and has spent much of that time in the Middle East. He believes that the close relationship between the Bush family and the Saudi elite led to an intelligence failure that culminated in the attack of 9/11. He has recently published a book called 'See No Evil'.
In his interview with the fifth estate he tells us how U.S. intelligence agencies were blinded by assurances from the Saudis that Bin Laden was not a threat in a 'conspiracy of silence'.

the 'conspiracytheories' part of the link doesn't do much for its credibility.
the Saudis aren't out to protect the USA. They're out for themselves, and their impotence and cowardice over the years in dealing with those in their country that support, bankroll, and execute terrorism is hideous. They are the ones who hear no evil, see no evil. Eyes wide shut, the Saudis are.
recently they've been dragging their feet less--arresting and taking down some folks--but they'll have to make serious progress before I take their 'efforts' as goodwill and good faith.

I watched the show the ties between the two families seem to go way back. I found the whole thing pretty interesting.

As if Bush is out to protect the US.
He's out to ensure his families investment's.
Like the Brits are helping because they feel bad for the US.
EVERYONE is out for their own self interests. There is not one party in this entire thing who isn't after their own self interest.
Why did France not want to invade? Why did the US? Why did countries provide flyover rights? Why didn't some countries?

you're making two very distinct (and illogical) arguments here, robert. first you say bush isn't out to protect the US, and you equate that with the geopoliticals and realpolitik of the world at large (flyover rights, not supporting certain actions, etc.). They're ridiculous equivocations. Bush wasn't complicit in 9/11 and he is out to protect the United States, according to his philosophy and policies, which are very different from the way you think it should be done (or thoughts you might form--provided you could get your single neuron to fire up for more than a nanosecond).

The only solution is to allow a full and uncensored investigation into the matter.
