Intel is not going to produce chips in Frankfurt/Oder.
Millions of tax money are vanished - or better said flushed. No new jobs created.

Do you know where the new plant is going? I was just wondering if you think the shift is politically motivated? I know the main Intel plant in Portland is shipping lots of the work to the East. The IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) is not happy. The outsourcing of electricians hit the union hard.
Just wondering. Do you think this is the result of a US CEO punishing Germany for not supporting the war?

No.
From what I understand, it was a matter of the German government not covering for financial securities (sorry if the jargon is off).
This is a severe blow to the whole region.

This is about politics because the Dubai, the biggest investor, wanted a security for their investment from the German government. German government doesn't want to secure their investment, so Dubai doesn't pay anything any more.

As I said, it was supposed to be in Frankfurt/Oder.
The building is already there.

No, this is only because Dubai doesn't want to continue investment without guarantee from the German (or Brandenburg) government. I assume all investors (Dubai, Germany, Brandenburg and Intel) lost money now compared to when they just didn't start the project.
This is a common pattern recently. TransRapid, CargoLifter, Lausitzring, Toll Collect, and now this Frankfurt chip plant all wasted German tax payer's money for nothing.

Nothing to do with American politics, or the lack there off. I was simply wondering if this would be better suited to the general lounge, as it seemed more along the lines of a non-political business issue.
The connection as been drawn, with he whole government securities thing, so I left it right where it was. Man, you lot in the foil hats are a touchy bunch!
Actually, I would like to see more about international politics in here, especially on the regional and local levels. That's what I find interesting.

Ah, a common misconception. It's what we, on this side of the pond, call "good natured teasing". Easy to mistake.

I was wondering about the replacement of that building.
The production capacity must have been shifted to some other local..?

I haven't heard about it now going elsewhere.
I assumed the production capacity is not needed and that's the reason nobody wants to invest in it now.

why would anyone want to invest billions in Germany? Taxes are oppressive on workers and corporations, the unions undermine flexibility in the workforce, and companies must conform to trillions of nagging labour laws and restrictions.
When you're that anti-business, you are bound to turn away investment.

Maybe factors like technological know how, infrastructure, easy to find highly qualified workers, social and political stability (which unions play a role in) etc.?
But it's not all great. Could be interesting to discuss this with somebody who is seriously interested in it, which I have my doubts you are.

thoughtful retort, but easily anticipated. Socialist Germany's 'highly qualified' workers are easily duplicated in certain areas of Asia. Social and political stability are the result of Germans' adherence to democracy, not the gift of labour unions.

Not-so-thoughtful retort, but equally easily anticipated.
And AMD's chip manufacturing business seems to run just fine.
