please read this CNN story in its entirety

an interesting point:

Card said it took "an awful long time" for the United States to develop its own Constitution, and the Iraqi people are being asked to "make a move from a horrible dictatorship to a full democracy. And we're going to do it in a record fast time, but we're going to do it with the Iraqi people taking the lead, rather than having something jammed down their throat by outside forces," he said.

Commenting on Mr. Card's comment: Iceland took a very short time to write a constitution. The Danish one was translated and 'King' replaced with 'President'. It is a pretty neat constitution too.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

but was it being accelerated in its writing to meet the election deadline of the leader of an occupying force, being worked on by an appointed provisional government hand-picked by the occupying force?

Well no. Denmark was occupied by Germany in 1944 (when the constitution was made). So we were in a hurry I suppose.

My suggestion is that the US constitution is rewritten into Arabic and God replaced with Allah. That should pretty much take care of things.

Perhaps you could remove the silly things like the 'right to bear arms in organized militias' ans stuff like that. A constitution is just that. A piece of paper. A formality. It shouldn't have to take long, especially at gunpoint. Making it work will be far more difficult for the US in Iraq. This is gonna be interesting.
