A Lebanese friend of mine told me that there's a new law coming out in the U.S that will fire all the existing political science professors and replace them with government-hired people. This is supposed to be a measure to clamp down on anti-american sentiments, and if any professors are suspected of anti-american sentiment, they are jailed immediately.

I couldn't find a link either

Sounds like B.S. to me, but if anyone knows something about this it would be interesting to see what the "real" law is like.

Those claims are obviously exaggerated. Still, I find it a worrisome development: bureaucrats trying to exercise control over who gets funding based on their political views.

"I am encouraged that the creation of this Advisory Board will help redress a problem which is a great concern of mine, namely, the lack of balance, and indeed the anti-American bias that pervades Title VI-funded Middle East studies programs in particular ... surely it is troubling when evidence suggests that many of the Middle East regional studies grantees are committed to a narrow point of view at odds with our national interest, a point of view that questions the validity of advancing American ideals of democracy and the rule of law around the world, and in the Middle East in particular." -- Rep. Howard Berman, D-Calif.

This is a valid point. A lot of these kooks get lots of money to spew their anti-American filth, not just anti-Bush. The government's money is supposed to fund things that will benefit the US and its citizens, and this latest effort is just an attempt to get back to the roots of that intent.

To answer your question: no, you do not and will not go to jail if you are anti-american.

Suppressing diversity of opinion is fundamentally anti-American.

so...if the next election, Hillary Clinton is veep, and Clark or Dean is president, do you likewise think there shouldn't be any money for people who would be anti-Clinton?
Would being anti-Clinton be anti-american filth?

Sounds like te 2000 election. The warehouse where I was working was mostly staffed by blacks who were convinced that Bush was going to take away their right to vote.

Using government funds to pay for extremist Arab and Muslim loons to piss on the US and run their lame Hate-America, pro-Jihad clubs = bad.

No, giving money to hate groups is dumb. What next, is the Klan going to start getting grants to preserve their heritage?

they can spout all the anti-American rhetoric they want, just don't give them gov't money for it.

PRAISE ALLAH! SOMEONE GETS IT. IT'S NOT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND, INFIDELS.

Your countries don't pay the fascist groups for research, 'scholarly' work or think-tank activities. Why should the USA fund the same type of worthless crap?

I'd have to agree. I don't think sedition should be funded by our tax dollars. Let's call a spade a spade. no one said anything about "anti-Bush", as the lessons are primarily anti-American.
