This Op-Ed has no substance whatsoever. I just thought it was funny:

here it is.

I know many people here won't find it particularly funny. Simey will mention that it was stupid of the author to publish it (the elitism will likely help Bush more than hurt him), and I would tend to agree.

Still, I thought it was funny, and want to share it with those who would agree.

Wow...so 55-60+% of the American people (the ones who like Bush) are stupid, and the 30-45% of Americans who are smart (according to the author) all make up the anti-Bush crowd? The "S" factor - what a good thesis.

Sort of resembles the "G' factor that is driving Howard Dean.
With just one exception, every fundraiser Dean attended outside Vermont in 2002 was organized by gay men and lesbians, as were more than half the events in the first quarter of 2003, according to Dean advisers.

The gay community has become a powerful force in the Democratic Party, reflecting the growing importance of socially and culturally liberal groups in providing both votes and money, as business and trade associations shift increasingly toward the Republican Party.
Also, there is the "WM" factor:
President Bush's overwhelming strength among white men looms as a central obstacle between Democrats and the White House as 2004 approaches..."Younger, married white men are disastrously, overwhelmingly Republican"
Combined with the traditional 80-90% of blacks that vote Democratic, the "S" factor provides us with an interesting breakdown:

* 55% - 60% of all Americans are stupid, including business and trade associations and most white males (and almost all who are married).

* 40% of Americans are smart, including almost all blacks and most gays.

Mr. Neil Starkman will likely win the Pullitzer for this groundbreaking analysis of American intelligence levels.

I warned you that it had no merit.

Also, remember that fully half of all people are below average. Just think of how stupid the average person is, and realize that half of all people are dumber than that.

Thank you George Carlin.

I'd be curious to see the author's explanation as to why the "smart" people (map) haven't been able to figure out how to emerge from poverty. (map)

I know...I'm just playing around with the author's theory and associating it with other US political-socio-economical breakdowns.

That article is about as sophisticated as a 2nd grade playground where a kid calls anyone who doesn't like his Four Square rules a "stupidhead."

When you can't defeat someone on policy, call them dumb. What a theory.

Haven't these guys ever learned from college football coaches? When you are going to play a team that isn't as good as you, you talk them up - you tell the press how great their quarterback is, or how their linebackers are quick. That way, if you don't beat them by 35 points, you have an excuse. If you lose to them, you don't look like a total ass. And it could help in improving your "strength of schedule" for BCS rankings!

Meanwhile, if you tell the world how dumb the opponent's coach is, how their quarterback is unpoised and their defense is slow - you are setting yourself up to be made a fool. Because if you lose to them, you look like the dumb coach with an unpoised quarterback and slow defense.

And since Bush has managed to beat the Democrats pretty handily - by coopting their issues, beating them to the punch, gaining seats in 2002, etc., if they continue to call him dumb, then lose in 2004, who would the real "S" factor belong to?

Oh, that's easy; it's because The Man has been suppressing them for his own Nefarious Purposes.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

Millennium - point of fact, "The Man" no longer exists. He changed his name to "Neocons."

But the link you posted is not funny. George Carlin's funny because he's George Carlin. Neal Starkman is not funny just like Margaret Cho tampon jokes are not funny.

Ooooh, the "I know you are but what am I" defense. Well, I'll counter with "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me."

I just figured that you didn't like the editorial because you're in the group the editorialist labeled as "stupidheads." Since you're in that group, if Cho tampon jokes aren't funny to you for the same reason, that makes you a tampon, n'est-ce pas?

You started it.

Wrong.

My comment about the Cho tampon joke was that only certain people find her humor funny. I don't. Maybe it's just because she's ugly, dunno. Kind of like why you don't like Bush because you think he's stupid (never mind that he probably has the brightest cabinet of any administration in recent history). Or maybe it's just that you are a narrow minded internet kook who thinks everyone is stupid who doesn't agree with you. I don't wish to get into a great debate about it. So I'll end it with that.

Sorry to piss in your thread but I think that's what you wanted anyway.

Even an idiot can recognize ability in others.

I'll see that charge with "It takes one to know one" for $200, Pat.

I don't wish to get into a great debate about it. So I'll end it with that.
If you call this a great debate, you really are a stupidhead.

Oh, I knew what would happen from the start. I still felt it was worth it, my distaste for your piss aside.

Edit: P.S. Thought I should add that I never agreed with the article. In fact, I called it meritless. I don't think that the author was trying to be funny, but I found both the picture painted and the arrogance of the author quite funny. So nyar.
