NYT has the story (uname=macnn pass=macnn).

While it certainly doesn't prove that no connection exists, not surprising since proving such would be impossible, it certainly seems to undermine the case that a connection existed. Put in other words, it reduces the probability that anyone will be able to make a substantive connection.

Salon speculates that the CIA has it in for Bush (what with blaming the CIA for the "16 words" and outing a CIA operative), and that it is the source of the leak. If that's true, they could start leaking like a sieve in the runup to the election, especially if there's something embarrassing to leak.

I read it got a different impression.

Saddam acknowledges the presence Islamic jihadists in a matter-of-factly manner, seemingly assuming cooperation between Baathist leaders and foreign fighters while not forbidding any in the future.

Saddam looks to be simply warning his people not to get too close to these foreign fighters due to the difference in their respective agendas.
