this CNN story should be read in its entirety....especially the last bit:
Administration sources said the goal is to win a strong statement from Annan backing the political transition plan and a commitment to send a U.N. team to Iraq to assist with the effort.
"The issue of the political transition in Iraq is certainly the topic on the agenda," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters Thursday.
He also said the United States would help "make sure that the U.N. has the kind of security that they need for their circumstances and their kind of operations in Iraq."
Annan ordered U.N. personnel out of Iraq after the bombing in August at its headquarters in Baghdad, which killed Annan's special representative to Iraq and 21 others.
I have mixed feelings. I have to give for the decision to involve the UN, especially in the election process (something I suggested in another thread), but I have to wonder how well all that negative posturing Bush did last year before the war about how irrelevant the UN is, is going to hinder their efforts now.
this is where being diplomatic in the first place makes it easier in the second place when you need help. I can't help but think they might have scr@wed the pooch on this issue.
I think Bush is finally coming around to the correct decisions, but you may not be able to get there from here.

Yeah, rrrriiiiight ... that's why he's crawling back to the UN now, asking for help like the useless bum he is. A half a troll point for you, 'bud.

Bush isn't crawling back to anyone. Certain UN nations who want to cash in on Iraqi contracts are now going to have to pony up a bit.

I am still not over this title. As if UN had never been in Iraq before.
All remember Dr Sergio's death. Mister Annan's first delegate.
Didn't Blix have anything to do with UN?
I am not mixed here, I feel bad.
Then the snippet about the Shias thinking the US doesn't want to give them all powers, a majority in GOV.
never mind :o
split in Iraq.

And if you weren't a complete fool, we wouldn't always have to say it.
I've always wondered what it's like to be the class clown/attention whore. Thankfully, I've never been the kid who was picked last in gym class, or failed all of my exams. Instead, I had and continue to have friends and others who respect me. I wonder how different you would act if you weren't liaising with the animals on Spliffdaddy's farm.

um. IMHO that was uncalled for. As much as I don't agree with his point of view, that kind of personal attack serves no purpose.

If you haven't been following my latest political posts, you wouldn't have noticed that I don't give a **** about people such as kindbud or spacefreak. They contribute absolutely nothing to the world. I've tried tact with them, but have found it to be no good, so, in spirit with the lawlessness that rules these boards, I've given up being nice. You can criticize me all you want, but I'm not going to stop. At the very least, I'm no worse than them.
