oh, and I thought it was interesting to see the WMD's are now called Weapons of mass murder. Wonder if W would use that term when talking about the new mini-nukes and the rest of the US's arsenal.......

"Key provisions of the Patriot Act are set to expire next year" - Applause

Bush was not amused. That angry, petulant man gave everyone a steely gaze. It was priceless.

Heh, sorry I missed that.

But I'm more interested in what the Final Cut people do with this than with the real one.

How disgusting was it to link VD's and "marriage is a bond between a man and a woman".

Thereby implying that homosexuals are responsible for spreading VD's.

I'd love to hear Simey's response to that.

OT: perryp you are one weird dude. Do you roll a dice before you post, to decide whose side you're for or against? I mean this an a grudgingly admiring and fascinated kind of way. Could you spell out your basic stands, politically/socially/economically/whatever? I can't stitch it together from your posts at all.

Yeah...applause by about 7 or 8 people hidden in the back on the Democrat side of the aisle.

Bush was not amused. That angry, petulant man gave everyone a steely gaze.
He wasn't angry. You want him to be, but he wasn't. There was none of that rude "You sit down..you had your say" stuff.

Bush merely acknowledged them with a quick glance, then clearly continued in their direction "The terrorist threat will not expire on that schedule. (Loud Applause) Our law enforcement needs this vital legislation to protect our citizens. You need to renew the Patriot Act. (Louder Applause.) "

Greeting, Logic.

The STD-VD part had to do with funding abstinence programs for children. Here:
To encourage right choices, we must be willing to confront the dangers young people face -- even when they're difficult to talk about. Each year, about 3 million teenagers contract sexually-transmitted diseases that can harm them, or kill them, or prevent them from ever becoming parents. In my budget, I propose a grassroots campaign to help inform families about these medical risks. We will double federal funding for abstinence programs, so schools can teach this fact of life: Abstinence for young people is the only certain way to avoid sexually-transmitted diseases.
Now here's the marriage part:
A strong America must also value the institution of marriage. I believe we should respect individuals as we take a principled stand for one of the most fundamental, enduring institutions of our civilization. Congress has already taken a stand on this issue by passing the Defense of Marriage Act, signed in 1996 by President Clinton. That statute protects marriage under federal law as a union of a man and a woman, and declares that one state may not redefine marriage for other states.

Activist judges, however, have begun redefining marriage by court order, without regard for the will of the people and their elected representatives. On an issue of such great consequence, the people's voice must be heard. If judges insist on forcing their arbitrary will upon the people, the only alternative left to the people would be the constitutional process. Our nation must defend the sanctity of marriage.
I don't see the "disgusting" linking of VD's and "marriage is a bond between a man and a woman", nor do I see the implication that homosexuals are responsible for spreading VD's.

They were located near each other in the speech, however. Did you run to the bathroom at the STD part and return to hear Bush talking about marriage?

Well I read through it and added some comments for Bush. I hope the democrats eat him for breakfast!

As we gather tonight, hundreds of thousands of American servicemen and women are deployed across the world in the war on terror. By bringing hope to the oppressed, and delivering justice to the violent, they are making America more secure.
Hundreds of thousands? Iraq had no links to terror, remember? If you exclude the troops in Iraq, I doubt there are hundreds of thousands fighting terror. You're scaring people on purpose here Bush!
Last March, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, a mastermind of September 11th, awoke to find himself in the custody of US and Pakistani authorities. Last August 11th brought the capture of the terrorist Hambali, who was a key player in the attack in Indonesia that killed over 200 people.
Notice how neither of these achievements were made by "America"
With help from the new Afghan army, our coalition is leading aggressive raids against surviving members of the Taleban and al-Qaeda. The men and women of Afghanistan are building a nation that is free, and proud, and fighting terror, and America is honoured to be their friend.
YOUR coalition? The UN is not a coalition! UN=Afghanistan, Coalition=Iraq! Get it straight! Did you miss the report that new laws are being passed as we speak that entrench discrimination against women in Afghanistan? Oh, that's right, you don't read the news.
Having broken the Baathist regime, we face a remnant of violent Saddam supporters
Hello! Have you not noticed that the attacks have continued unabated despite Saddam's capture? Have you not read the interviews with resistance members saying they are motivated by nationalism and religion and almost universally detest Saddam? Have you not noticed the Immams saying that now that Saddam is gone, there really is no excuse for the US to remain in Iraq - and using that as a motivation for their followers to attack Americans.
Last January, Iraq's only law was the whim of one brutal man. Today our coalition is working with the Iraqi Governing Councilto draft a basic law, with a bill of rights
An unelected body consisting primarily of Iraqi exiles is drafting a constitution and a bill of rights for Iraqis. One might say that the only law is the whim of one unelected, puppet council.
We are working with Iraqis and the United Nations to prepare for a transition to full Iraqi sovereignty
I thought the UN was irrelevant! Full sovereignty? Under your plan Iraqis won't have any say in their destiny between now and June. How can you describe that as full sovereignty?
Because of American leadership and resolve, the world is changing for the better. Last month, the leader of Libya voluntarily pledged to disclose and dismantle all of his regime's weapons of mass destruction programmes, including a uranium enrichment project for nuclear weapons. Colonel Gaddaffi correctly judged that his country would be better off, and far more secure, without weapons of mass murder.
If that's the correct judgment, maybe you want to explain why your official policy is to increase the number of weapons of mass murder that you possess!
I have had the honour of meeting our servicemen and women at many posts, from the deck of a carrier in the Pacific, to a mess hall in Baghdad
Where you paraded around for 2 hours with a plastic turkey!].
Some in this chamber, and in our country, did not support the liberation of Iraq. Objections to war often come from principled motives. But let us be candid about the consequences of leaving Saddam Hussein in power. We are seeking all the facts - already the Kay Report identified dozens of weapons of mass destruction-related programme
No you don't. Very sneaky turn of phrase there, but this was never about WMD PROGRAMMES. Maybe for a refresher you would like to go back and read Colin Powell's address to the UN! Besides, there is still no evidence of WMD programmes in Iraq! I love the way your main motivation for invading Iraq in the first place is now reduced to a single paragraph talking about programmes of which there is no evidence even existed!
Had we failed to act, Security Council resolutions on Iraq would have been revealed as empty threats, weakening the United Nations and encouraging defiance by dictators around the world
The gall to insinuate that your action strengthened the UN! The UN never implemented its decisions. You did. You've shown that American will implement its own decisions even if they're based on incorrect assumptions and you've shown that you will act despite anything that the UN says. That has not resulted in a strengthening of the UN. Au contraire!.
There is a difference, however, between leading a coalition of many nations, and submitting to the objections of a few
A FEW??? I can't believe you dare to refer to those who objected as a "few". The VAST MAJORITY of countries in the world objected. Only a tiny minority were in favour!
America will never seek a permission slip to defend the security of our country
So Iraq's potential WMD Programmes, which there is still no evidence of, were a threat to the security of the USA! You think your electorate is dumb enough to buy this drivel!

I read the rest but it just sickened me to see him saying that abstinence was the cure for AIDS and that society needed to be protected from gays. I don't even want to stoop to having to comment on that. What do you guys see in this idiot? Seriously! He opens his mouth and lowest common denominator shamelessly inaccurate crap flows out. I don't see speeches from any other presidents around the world that are this full of lies and so obviously propaganda exercises (to the point where he actually requests approval for more money to spend on propaganda!). How he got to where he is today is both a mystery and scary to me!

Correction "weapons of mass destruction program related activities"

You know, like typing "anthrax" into a web search engine. Or getting a degree in nuclear physics from Bagdad University. Or buying fertilizer.

There are all kinds of insidious activities which might be related to WMD program activity.

In fact, by definition destroying WMDs is a WMD program related activity.

First and foremost, my ace in the whole is that I am not penny wise and pound foolish. It's a small world, so we should all live off the fat of the land. Life is too short, we're all too close for comfort so I will make it plain and clear – that is the name of the game. Kerry is barking up the wrong tree, Dean is shooting himself in the foot, and we're all going to be left holding the bag. A little bird told me that if you play fast and loose, the sh*t will hit the fan. The thought of it makes Al Sharpton's hair stand on end. I will walk an extra mile for you, I will walk in your shoes, while everyone else sits around and collects dust. Money can't buy happiness, but don't be a day late and a dollar short. We've got a long row to hoe, we need to put our nose to the grindstone, get down to business and use our heads. We've got to roll with the punches, because you get what you give. If we can't beat 'em, we'll join 'em. Put up your dukes! And if this has all left you as confused as a cow knee deep in spring thaw, I'm a happy camper. Every cloud has a silver lining, year in and year out. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. And that is absolutely, possitively the whole kit and kaboodle. Over and out.
