this nyt story relates how Kay, backpedaling from statements embarrassing to the Bush administration, is now attempting to blame the intelligence community for failing to detect there were no WMDs.

(remember, for NYT stories, username macnn, password macnn)

some excerpts:

Dr. Kay said the fundamental errors in prewar intelligence assessments were so grave that he would recommend that the Central Intelligence Agency and other organizations overhaul their intelligence collection and analytical efforts.

Dr. Kay said analysts had come to him, "almost in tears, saying they felt so badly that we weren't finding what they had thought we were going to find — I have had analysts apologizing for reaching the conclusions that they did."

In response to Dr. Kay's comments, an intelligence official said Sunday that while some prewar assessments may have been wrong, "it is premature to say that the intelligence community's judgments were completely wrong or largely wrong — there are still a lot of answers we need." The official added, however, that the C.I.A. had already begun an internal review to determine whether its analytical processes were sound.
interesting.....note the part I emphasized. I imagine rumsfeld's own intelligence group will start rallying behind the idea of reorganizing the CIA.

Large cuts to the military and intelligence surely didn't help defense, or intelligence.

Let this be a lesson to future Democratic presidents.

That is taking for granted there will be future Democrats in the Presidency.

Why? Why Zitfire, in the face of all the information presented to you, do you continue to state the same misinformed opinions (with absolutely no evidence) that you have clung to for months (years?) now. You must think that by re-stating the same farcical notions that they will become true.

For the love of your God will you please go back to sucking your thumb. You are a clown. Nice red shoes though.

This is good news. The more the White House blames the CIA and other Intelligence services, the more the people in those departments leak to the public the fact that their excellent intelligence reports were heavily edited and doctored by the White House for public consumption.

That has been the trend of the last year, I guess its going to accelerate.

The more Bush & Co pass the buck, the more everyone else resents it and starts breaking rank.

check out what CIA veterans are saying to illustrate my point about the blame cycle.

I remember an American president who had a sign on his desk: "The Buck Stops Here". If one is going to take the credit (a certain aircraft carrier comes to mind), one should also be big enough to shoulder the blame.

Maybe that sign is still in a drawer somewhere in the West Wing...
