BUSH: I'm a war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign policy matters with war on my mind. And again, I wish it wasn't true, but it is true.
....
RUSSERT: But can you launch a preemptive war without ironclad, absolute intelligence that he had weapons of mass destruction?
BUSH: Let me take a step back for a second, and there is no such thing necessarily in a dictatorial regime of ironclad, absolutely solid evidence. The evidence I had was the best possible evidence that he had a weapon.
RUSSERT: But it may have been wrong.
BUSH: Well, but what wasn't wrong was the fact that he had the ability to make a weapon. That wasn't wrong.
RUSSERT: This is an important point, because when you say that he has biological and chemical weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles...
BUSH: Which he had.
RUSSERT: ... and they could come and attack the United States, you are saying to the American people, "We have to deal now with a man who has these things."
BUSH: That's exactly what I said.
Says it all really.....

I think this is what it comes down to:
Russert: Let me turn to Iraq._ And this is the whole idea of what you based your decision to go to war on.
President Bush: Sure, sure.
Russert: The night you took the country to war, March 17th, you said this:_ "Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised."
President Bush: Right.
Russert: That apparently is not the case.
President Bush: Correct.

Well this should be the end of MacNNs Politics Lounge! There is nothing left to discuss, he's said it all. Wow.
When he says he is a "War President", if by President he means criminal, then yep, .

Our President is coming clean with his critics. As is his way. He is an honest God-fearing man. He would never intentionally do anything to harm his beloved country and nation. That is the heart and soul of his political leaning and that is why I will continue to support him.

BUSH: Let me take a step back for a second, and there is no such thing necessarily in a dictatorial regime of ironclad, absolutely solid evidence.
So Bush admits his Whitehouse is a dictatorial regime?
BUSH: The evidence I had was the best possible evidence that he had a weapon.
Carefully cherrypicked. Of course we ignored all the evidence which said otherwise.

Excuse me. Bill Clinton bombed locations in
IRAQ where he said and I quote,
"[T]he United States and Britain bombed for four days in the places where we thought the remaining chemical and biological stocks were. Because there were no inspectors there, obviously we don't know if we got a hundred percent of what we thought was there, 50% or 10%."

What role in 9/11 did NK have?
What makes you think they are not

Who will NK have to deal with when

Nobody will play with them, once
the Middle East (terrorists and supporters)
are taken out of the equation.
I find it ironic that if we were to take
some license with history for a moment,
what all the Bush haters in here would
be saying?
It's 1941, and this guy named Saddam
Hussein has taken control over Germany,
and he has allies with North Korea,
Syria, and other countries.
He has taken it upon himself to kill all
the nice German (Kurds) who disagree
with him as they are inferior in his mind,
and he must destroy all of them.
One of his allies attackes the USA by
suprise, and wakes a sleeping giant
that will then enter the war with full
force, and the backing of the entire
nation. Victory is the only option.
What do you do?

Ah, WWII analogies. The Nazis had supporters in Britain and the US who gave them some financial aid and equipement during their rise to power. Like wise Islamic militancy found the same assistance during their rise.
The real issue people have is why create enemies and not friends?

That statement seems to be the most
intelligent thing to come out of Germany
since the war began.
Well,
How to respond?
A quick joke?, or the intelligent truthful response?
American didn't use WMDs on it's own
citizens in an attempt to keep them in
line with Machiavellian tactics, or by
using the Stalin Cookbook on how to
run a Dictatorship.
Saddam 2003 = Hitler 1941
North Korea has enslaved over 1,000,000
of it's own people in camps.
Saddam killed MILLIONS over his reign of
terror on his own people, and his time
had come and gone.
Germany, France = backroom deals with
Saddam through bribery = cowards.
Our men died in part because of Germany
and France's unwillingness to participate
in this war.
SHAME ON THEM!
WWII The USA came to the aid of the world
and without us and other nations, the face
of GERMANY and EUROPE may have looked
drastically different.
How many died in WWII for what was right?
It's ok for Americans to spill their blood for
EUROPE but when it is in the ME, it's for oil.

LOL! This is pretty rich, the Germans are to blame that americans are dying in Iraq?!?
Beautiful logic.
I am going to start a war but it is your fault my men are dying because you didn't want to come and die yourself!

One question, did the US do anything before they got attacked themselves?
How many died in WWII for what was right?
Too many.

Is that the best you've got? My country not doing anything (militarily) is not an excuse for your country to invade nations without justification.

Does anyone know of an online version of the Russert interview? I don't have a TV, but I would like to see the actual interview. I hear it plays worse than the transcript...

Two centuries? Bullsh*t. There are a whole bunch of Canadians serving in Afghanistan right now. One solider was killed recently in a suicide bombing.
I guess Canada wasn't involved in WWII either

Not to mention a little war in 1812 where the Americans were having their assess handed to them to the point that the British/Canadian army took D.C. and set the White House on fire.

And we've got a fair bit of oil up here too; nuclear reactors and technology that we export around the world; testing of cruise missles in our northern territories; we're actively trying to destroy the sanctity of marriage; we're legalizing the use of marijuana

So the rest of your response was a quick joke??
The main reason for your countries invasion was the potential danger and existence of WMDs in Saddams backyard that many of your citizens believed to be able to reach your countries coasts (as seen in interviews on german TV)........no comment
Humanitarian reasons have never really be mentioned!
It is the war against terror (the only word your president can probably write) and not for the people of Iraq!

We didn't forget that! Thanks again!!!
But I am not living in the past - it is NOT an excuse for every mistake your country makes today!
At least Germany and france didn't have any information about the existence of WMDs and that's why there was no legal reason for a invasion, neither did YOUR country have any proven information about the existence according to former CIA agents that have been allowed to talk on german TV some weeks before the war started - seems like this has been censored on your propaganda TV!?!
(in case you are wondering: those CIA Agents quit their job because their reports about the NON-existence of WMDs haven't been accepted...)
Try to watch more liberal international TV - this might bring some light to your view of the world!!

Bush rejects Saddam 9/11 link
There is no proof that there is any connection between Hussein and al-Qaeda. And without solid proof, you can't go to war. NO PROOF DOES NOT EQUAL EVERYTHING! That's why the war was about WMD and not 9/11. Except there wasn't proof about WMD either, and now Bush is finally admitting that. So why DID we go to war? To free the Iraqi people? If so, why didn't he just SAY THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Lies piss me off. And our government lying is even worse. If Bush is re-elected, then I'm applying for citizenship elsewhere.

Actually, Canada has to be part of the Axis of Evil.
We found the name.
We are your neighbours (cannot be innocent!).
We sent you SARS and Mad Cow disease.
We promote Gay mariage.
We look suspiciously peaceful.
We have a similar currency (usurpation of currency).
We had a French Speaking Prime minister that could not speak straight (doubly suspicious).
We resisted your invasion once (need to save face)
and I feel the list cannot really stop...
ah! Yes! There is a full province full of Frenchies.

quote:
BUSH: I'm a war president. I make decisions here in the Oval Office in foreign policy matters with war on my mind. And again, I wish it wasn't true, but it is true.
....
RUSSERT: But can you launch a preemptive war without ironclad, absolute intelligence that he had weapons of mass destruction?
What he really meant:
BUSH: I'm an idiot.
RUSSERT: That's right, you are.
