This happens to many soldiers who stay in foreign countries. There are stories of Roman soldiers from Syria, Africa and other places who settled in Scotland. There are Americans right now marrying Iraqi women, etc. It's always amazing to hear these stories.

Fantastic stories that are so challenging to interpret.

And maybe they do not need any form of interpretation; maybe all we need to do is to appreciate them for exactly what they are.

I like to think that some soldiers found their way to some sense of resolve and peace of mind after coming out of a war.

Good for them.

But the truth may be terribly more complicated...
