That's a lot of blood and a lot of tears...
Are we done yet?
I found this link while looking for a translation of the book by Jean Ziegler: Les Nouveaux Maîtres Du Monde.
Unfortunately not yet available in English. But there is apparently a translation in German...
Oh well... There is always Chomsky to start a reflection...

Of course not, if the fundamental reasons of the conflict remain unsolved - sadly...

Such a sad commentary, that over thirty years later we are no further along. Sadder still how close we've repeatedly come, only to have everything spoiled by idiots from one side or the other, or sometimes both.

I wish I had the answer...
But, maybe, some form of "new renaissance", where traditional religious (and not) discrepancies are made radically less relevant, due to more universal - and, at the same time, particular - values? This might sound rather post-post-modern, however...

I wonder if the nations that supported the creation of Israel in 1948 were doing it in the best interest of Jews or their worst.

I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

Nope. Politicians on both sides are still having way to much fun.
voodoo: According to books based on interviews with foreign diplomats who were involved, it was mostly to get them out of the way, since the fear was they would Just bog down the political system of Europe, which post-wwii was unstable as is. Giving the land was in essense thought by some as a settlement over the crimes committed. One could debate the ethics of it for ages. IMHO, it was inadequately planned. It was done by those who didn't know anything about the region, and the Israeli's were lead by genocidal individuals with extreme hatred of non-jews due to a feeling of betrayal during the holocaust (germany historically was a great place for jews to live).
Match that with a region which was taken over by force, and extremely hostile towards westerners...
and your destined for trouble.
Ironically, there is a group who pretty much stated what the problems would be with the creation of Israel before it was actually created. With extreme accuracy. And they were doubted. Sadly they were very right.
