Anti-semitism has now moved out of it's dark corners and is being promoted openly by mainstream UK politicians.

Are you ever going to reply to the posts your threads get? Or do you prefer the chickenshit hit-and-run tactic?

OK - How is comparing someone to a fictional nasty character 'anti-semitic'?

I have read Oliver Twist (a while ago now), and I remember that Fagin was a corrupter of children, and a gang leader. Was he Jewish? I don't remember.

I could, in an unguarded moment, compare the leader of a gang of pickpockets to Fagin, but I fail to see the anti-semitism in the truth.

Is comparing a moneylender to Shylock anti-semitic?

More revealing is the number of people in this forum who call for the resignations of Corinne Brown and Ze'ev Boim, but haven't once mentioned what should happen to the status of McCartney's job.

Good on you.

As for Fagin and Shylock, this article explains why it's anti-semitic, and furthermore how Dickens speaks through Riah as a means of describing good Jewish characters.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

McCartney is the Labour apologist who runs ghis mouth off at those who opposes even the slightest view of Blair. Did anyone see his useless attempt to justify the illegal Iraqi invasion? How about when he came down on Ken Livingston, but was then slapped across the face when Ken did a great job as Mayor. The list goes on about this poor sod.

Yup. He did the same to George Galloway and more recently Claire Short.
Dumbass, I hope he's kicked out.

An update here:
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/400920.html

20% of British public would not vote for a Jew. "Jews are still perceived as a fifth column when they reach positions of political power"

More EU-nuch bigotry.

Well,

No.1: You're a ****wit.
No.2: Howard is in a position of prominence who has the respect of his party and much of the British population. He's also doing pretty well in opinion polls if you compare to Blair. If Britons were sooo 'anti-semitic', he'd hardly be in the position he is right now.
No.3: You're a ****wit.

fagin may be a character built out of anti-semitism, but the bulk of mccartney's refernce was about pickpocketing. if you're convinced that calling someone a "21st century fagin" was intended as an anti-semitic jab, then suggest another famous pickpocket from english literature.

He was elected by his party, not the public. And are you saying The Telegraph made up the statistics that 20% of Britons would not vote for a Jew?

Firstly, the statistic came from the Jewish Chronical and was republished by Haaretz - not the Telegraph.

Secondly, if the poll doesn't mention percentages of Britons who won't vote for a Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Bhuddist, Rastafarian....etc - it doesn't mean sh!t.

How many Israelis would vote for a Muslim? 80%? 90%? 10%? Are the rest 'anti-Muslim'?

What does it matter?

How is not wanting to vote for a Jew in a Christian country construed as anti-semitic? especially as it is only by a fifth of the country. Ask how many would vote for a woman, and I guess that the answer would be less than 80% - that doesn't make them anti-female, just stupid.
