Gen. Henri Bentegeat said about 200 French troops were operating with U.S. forces in southeastern Afghanistan against the Taliban and bin Laden's al Qaeda. The Saudi-born militant is thought to be there or just across the border in Pakistan.
"Our men were not very far. On several occasions, I even think he slipped out of a net that was quite well closed," he told Europe 1 radio. He did not specify a time frame.

I thought OBL was dead already. Didn't he have some kind of a liver condition or something?

I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

OBL will paraded around right before the election. The stage lighting needs be adjusted and the girls need to learn their dance routines first.

200 French troops were operating with U.S. force
So are you suggesting that if the french had been operating alone that OBL would have been captured or killed?
I'm so confused, because it looks like it was a joint operation.

No I was just pointing out that if the French special Ops were that close, it will be a piece of cake for the US Special Ops to catch him, since the French are notoriously spineless, weak, incompetent, stinky, <insert your favorite comment here>....
Incidentally, with all the talk about how the Aznar's government has been sanctionned for supporting the war in Irak, I wanted to remind that there is actually a need for a real War on Terrorism, and that it will not take place in Baghdad. It seems that the Spanish people realized that.

OK, but the US forces were right there next to the French, so don't you think it's a bit short-sighted to blame only the French? I sure do.

This kind of reminds me of the time the Candian Navy was spouting off and puffing their chests about what they'd do 'if they caught Saddam'.
You know, in the event he went floating by in his spider hole or something...
Shaaadap France about 'almost' capturing bin Laden already.

God knows what they were doing trying to capture bin Laden anyway. Americans know that Iraq was really the one behind Sept. 11. Don't the French watch Fox News?

Could we put an end to this kind of foolishness once and for all? In trying to appear clever, you're just sinking to the idiot's level...

Worry not, i was indeed ' ' when i wrote all that. It would amuse me to say the least if the French would actually be a factor in the capture of OBL. I am sure some of the most vocal members here would still say that France has given up fighting terrorism, or something senseless like that.

No it has been banned by the Information Ministry because it was anti-French. I heard that they deemed every attempt to criticize the government action to be anti-patriotic.
