I think the key thing from that, rather long, read, is this:

"we need a new architecture of international power" And that is exactly where the US is getting it all wrong, imho.

Of course they're getting it wrong. For the most part, the US is concerned with the US, not the global community. Any concern for the global community on the US' part is simply a matter of disguised self-interest. This, of course, is not unique to the US. Most every (i'm hesitant to make this 100%) country operates in the same way. It is time to move beyond the nationalism that has plagued the past 300-500 years. Unfortunately, I can't imagine anything short of extraterrestrial contact that could galvanize such a radical social, political, and economic restructuring
