Have you noticed how frequently (and easily) Mexico's opinion is dismissed? Even in matters that fall within their own borders...within their own jurisdiction.

British cave explorers get trapped by rising water - refuse help from Mexican authorities - wait, instead, for British divers to rescue them.
Upon their rescue by British divers, Mexico detained the Brits for visa violations.
Heh. I would have sentenced them all (rescuers included) to 11months 29days.

It's as if Mexican law can be overridden by *any* non-Mexican - on a whim. Accidentally carry your firearm over the Mexican border? No problem. You're not Mexican, so you're not subject to their laws...right? I mean, it's a
Mexican law - not a real law.
OOpsie, you forgot to purchase the proper car insurance for your visit to Mexico. After all, you have Allstate, a non-Mexican insurance company...that should be WAY better than any Mexican insurance. right? Surely the Mexicans aren't serious about this law? I mean, this is Mexico we're talking about - they can't prosecute folks for that. "What? Having a car accident is considered a crime in Mexico? That's silly. We don't have laws like that where *I* come from...."
I think it's high time for Mexico to treat itself as its own nation. To make decisions based on its own beliefs - ignoring those of *every* other nation. The only thing holding Mexico back is the attitude of Mexicans. Too quick to cave-in to the demands of others...mostly in an effort to be accepted (as equal) by others. Like the nice guy that never kicks anyone's ass - no matter how much they had it coming.
I think the winds of change are stirring in Mexico. And it's about damn time.
