who is your favourite prime minister? why? some people like margaret thatcher, because she brought this country out of the winter of discontent. other people like disraeli because he vowed to keep out of the single currency (such foresight).

gohoward misses the days before King John ruined everything and required the need for a legislature.

He was an innovator, an intellectual, an advocate of strong central government. He shaped the direction of Canada as we know it today. He repatriated our constitution, he gave us the charter of rights and freedoms, official multiculturalism and bilingualism. He stood up to the provinces like no PM before or since.

Brian says (9:16 AM): I was looking at houses in Ottawa... I actually have a temptation in me to move
Jeff ******* says (9:19 AM): Eww, Ottawa is gross. It's infested with politicians, and presently, 1 Harper as well.

Probably a tie between Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher. Easily the greatest British Prime Ministers of the 20th Century.

Trudeau and Lévesque.
Trudeau was given a nice comment by DBursey, so I won't add to it.
Lévesque was a great man. Reporter, he covered WWII in the fields. Back home, he participated in the nationalization of Hydro-Québec, the institution managing power for the province and feeding some of the Northern States of the U.S.. He was also a friend to First Nations of Québec and welcomed all French speaking people of the world to become the nation of Québec.
He encouraged the development of the province (though Bourassa made it happen).
He was not that radical separatist extremist (though the senior members of the party gave him a pretty harsh time for not being that). His death came as a very sad moment; alone, and abandoned by the so-called friends of the party québécois.
