BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - An Iraqi militant group claimed on a Web site Saturday that it had beheaded a captive U.S. Marine, in what would be the fourth decapitation of a foreign hostage in the region since May.
The group, called the Ansar al-Sunna Army, posted a written statement on an Islamic web site claiming that it had killed Lebanese-born Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun.
"We would like to inform you that the Marine of Lebanese descent has been killed, and you will soon see the movie with your own eyes," said the statement, signed in the name of the group's leader, Abu Abdullah al-Hassan bin Mahmoud.
The U.S. military in Baghdad said it was checking into the report of Hassoun's death but had no confirmation for the moment.
It was not immediately possible to verify the authenticity of the group's statement.
...
Uh-oh. Wrong move punks. You executed a Marine, ON THE FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND. Oh man! I would NOT want to be in your sandals.

So Logic and lil'terroristkitten,
How does murdering a Muslim fit in with your attempted justification of insurgency actions?
Did he get what was coming to him?

I'm just curious as to what that link has to do with the alleged murder of the American soldier ?
I see some dead people. Without knowing the poster's reason for posting it, there is nothing to comment on.

It almost seems like you don't care a soldier was killed. The next white one to get the knife should get you upset though.

You go to war, people die.
That's what happens, and that's what it looks like.
And huh? "Murder"? You're at ****ing war with terrorists, by your own account. How the hell is the death of a soldier "murder"?

If this marine is indeed dead, then it most definitely an act of cold-blooded, premeditated murder. There is a big difference between this type of killing and death resulting from combat action.

Let me ask you something, is it not war then when Islamic jihadists declared war aginst America a quarter of a century ago?
- 52 American hostages taken in Iran in 1978 and held for 444 days
- 241 Americans killed in Beriut of which 220 were Marines
- the disco bombing in Berlin in 1986
- the Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie killing all 259 people onboard
- the 1993 WTC bombing
- the African embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania which left 234 people dead, including 12 americans, and injured some 5,000 others
- the attack on Khobar Towers which killed 19 Americans and injured over 200
- the attack on the USS Cole which killed 17 US sailors
- the 3,000 Americans killed on 9/11
- the Bali night club bombing which killed 202
- the Madrid train station bombing which killed 191
- the beheading of Nick Berg and Paul Johnson
To god knows what else, and all done out of pure hatred by Islamic terrorists.
Radical Islamic mullahs have been playing with fire for the last 30 years, and I'm supposed to feel sorry because their stupid dumb ignorant asses got burnt after 9/11? I'm supposed to feel sorry because 50 million more people in the world now live in a democracy? I don't think so.

That's pretty much what I thought. A crap link, that has nothing to do with the alleged murder of the American soldier.
Seems to me people are attempting to justify the alleged murder. Way to go guys.

"This is War", don't make me laugh. I don't feel like laughing today.
10 000 innocent Iraqis died for WMDs that do not exist.
I am only starting the count here. I have not looked at the Innocent Afghanistanis death yet.
You certainly have a point about all these American deaths. I am not going to contradict that. But to raise Hell because a soldier got beheaded through the course of a War that has nothing to do with those American deaths, and created more civilian deaths abroad than there was in your country, I think that is overdoing it.
My point though is that those wars are good to secure goods like oil and sacrifice people which ewill lead to more innocent death anyway.
That spiral or terror leading to ongoing death and mayhem has to stop somewhere, and I am not sure the actual tactic is solving anything. If we were to look for equal justice everywhere, we might start something. Although religious radicalism doesn't help, I am not certain that only Islam is the root of all that trouble.
Money is everywhere to be found though, and greed is always rewarded, whatever the human cost, wherever it happens, in whichever Nation you can name.
But heck, lemme give you an example of a dichotomous way of thinking:
Reductions in the number of people who smoke cigarettes, pipes, cigars, and other tobacco products or use smokeless tobacco could prevent most of the estimated 30,200 new cases and 7,800 deaths from oral cavity and pharynx cancers annually in the United States. (p. 67)
Hmm.. that' more than the victims of terrorism! Yet, I have not seen anyone send troops to cigarette makers...
Still,
Compared to nonsmokers, men who smoke are about 23 times more likely to develop lung cancer and women who smoke are about 13 times more likely. Smoking causes about 90% of lung cancer deaths in men and almost 80% in women. (p. 39)
The combination of smoking and alcohol consumption causes most laryngeal cancer cases. In 2003, an estimated 3800 deaths occurred from laryngeal cancer. (p. 62)
In 2003, an estimated 57,400 new cases of bladder cancer were diagnosed and an estimated 12,500 died from the disease. (p. 166
In 2003, an estimated 171,900 new cases of lung cancer occurred and approximately 157,200 people died from lung cancer. (p. 42
I leave to you to make the sum.
Choose your drug if you don't care if it kills you, but make sure you don't kill others on the way.
Your need for oil is killing ourselves, and especially the way it has been handled for the last 100 years.

Yeah, I suppose 9-11 wasn't really that bad after all. I mean many more people do die from cigarette related deaths every year.

A militant group denied on Sunday that it killed U.S. Marine Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun, injecting hope into his family's tense wait for news. The fate of the Lebanese-born Marine remains unknown, though Lebanon's Foreign Ministry says he is believed dead.
The denial from the Ansar al-Sunna Army came a day after a statement in the group's name announced that Hassoun had been beheaded. The Ansar al-Sunna said Sunday they didn't issue the statement, leaving it unclear if the 24-year-old was killed by another group or was still alive.

Now then, why don't we link to a site with all of the 350,000-1,000,000 million people Saddam killed over his lifetime. And how about the meating between him and leader of al-Qaeda? Or the weapons moving from the Iraqi border?
But where are the pictures of the dead Iraqis? In the heads of the families and friends that sick bastard murdered.
Was there not any good done in Iraq? We got rid of a man who did abominable things to his people, but somehow it was in illegitimate war.
What about the warning from Russia about Saddam engaging in terror attacks?
But those threats don't matter…
Where is the inhuman Logic? Isn't he supposed to jump in the streets right about now?
People.

again:
The standard argument of "well, at least we're better than Saddam" is NOT ****ING GOOD ENOUGH.
You are NOT morally superior simply because you kill fewer people.
Hate to break it to you, but there you have it.

Okay…so we should not fight evil because we're not morally superior? Or because we should have sympathy for terrorists? Or is it that killing is wrong and protecting the country is also wrong?
What's your point. We killed thousands in WWI & WWII. We should not have fought that war? 400,000 died in the Civil War? Was that a war that was stupid? Were we not to fight that war? Or was that an exception because we did the right thing?
OT: That site is losing it's funny fast.

Apparently the Marine is 'alive and free'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/3870393.stm
A Lebanese-born US marine who was reported to have been beheaded by his kidnappers in Iraq is alive and has been set free, his brother said.
Wassef Ali Hassoun's brother Sami said the family had received word that he had been released early on Tuesday.
He did not specify what the source of the information was, but said the family had "received a sign from my brother reassuring us".
On Saturday, a militant group claimed on a website it had killed Mr Hassoun.
"We have received a call that reassured us. My brother is alive and has been freed," Sami Hassoun said from the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, where the family originates.
It is reported that the Lebanese Foreign Ministry had been told by Lebanon's Baghdad Embassy that the US soldier was alive.

Even more news:
http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/...ine/index.html
(CNN) -- U.S. Marine Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun is at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, U.S. officials told CNN on Thursday.
Hassoun, who is of Lebanese descent, arrived at the embassy at 6 p.m. with members of his family, three U.S. sources said.
U.S. State Department spokesman Richard Boucher confirmed the reports. "All I know, at this point, is that he is at the embassy," he told reporters.

The whole "abduction" story is getting weirder and weirder with each news report.
Possibilities:
(1) He did actually get abducted, and somehow they set him free, and he managed to make his way to lebanon.
(2) He is a traitor and a coward, and he deserted. If this is the case, he needs to be courtmartialed and executed.

TRIPOLI, Lebanon (Reuters) - A gunbattle erupted Thursday near the family home of a Lebanese-born U.S. Marine who had been missing in Iraq, killing at least two people and wounding several others, witnesses said.
Relatives of Wassef Ali Hassoun, who arrived at the U.S. embassy in Beirut Thursday, traded fire with another family who taunted them by referring to the Marine and his family as U.S. agents, said the witnesses.

Which is my guess as to why he was released.
It's not really the huge worldwide moral outrage if a soldier is killed in what his own country stupidly decided to call a war.
