This is not exactly surprising, but I have to say that anybody sitting in Gaza sipping on coffee is extremely naive. Also not surprising is that the hostages were taken to a Red Crescent headquarters.
Should be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Bush, like every other president in their 3rd year, sent a memo to all members of his Admin. telling them if they plan to resign before the end of his presidency, to do so by Sept 1.
Whitman, and Ari Fleischer took the call.
Want to do it now, and they are abandoning their post. Which IIRC, a presidential appointment has special status, and legal consequences for leaving without an accepted resignation.
