"That a clerical error could lend one of the most powerful people in Washington to the list -- it makes one wonder just how many others who are not terrorists are on the list," said Reggie Shuford, a senior ACLU counsel. "Someone of Sen. Kennedy's stature can simply call a friend to have his name removed, but a regular American citizen does not have that ability. He had to call three times himself.
All jokes about Teddy aside, this is a pretty serious issue. It took him 3 calls to get this straightened out and he is a senator.

How many people are on this list? Airline security seems completely clueless these days. I guess preventing terrorism isn't a priority compared to Iraq.

Well, considering the number of felonies he would be guilty of (they can't/won't pursue those while he's in office), it's not surprising. I'm sure that's probably what's raising the red flag. They just need to setup a "white list" system to expedite people like him.

You didn't read the article.

A senior administration official, who spoke on condition he not be identified, said Kennedy was stopped because the name "T. Kennedy" has been used as an alias by someone on the list of terrorist suspects.
Here's an interesting quote off Slashdot:

According to the 1990 census information [census.gov], 0.067% of Americans have the surname 'Kennedy' - given a rough poulation of 300million, that makes around 200,000 American Kennedys.

Now, also from the above information, 4.25% of the male population and 3.35% of the female population have names beginning with T.

This means that just from that single name on the no-fly list, roughly 7600 Americans could be excluded from flying.

Pfft, this is just proof that dirty pinko commie Ted Kennedy is a terrorist. I've known it all along, and you socialist bastards are of course jumping to his defense. If Osama were here, he'd pat you on the back.

That wasn't my point. Funny mix up.
Also, you might notice the reference to the little kid on the bottom because of him.

I'm amazed at these responses. Does nobody care about America's national defense? Have we forgotten about 9/11? Our airline security is a color-coded joke. The inflexible incompetence is frightening. This reminds of when they were cancelling flights to the US because someone whose name or alias was on the watchlist (perhaps "T. Kennedy"?) didn't show up for the flight. There was no logic for cancelling the flights, but they did so anyway. The people in charge are clueless. How is an ordinary person who isn't a senator supposed to be able to clear his name? It took a senator three weeks to get off the watchlist, by talking to Tom Ridge personally. What is the average American supposed to do?

And you to anyone left of Stalin.

But since you're so uptight, you didn't get the point: I don't care, it was stupid, and it was mildly amusing. What did I say about Kennedy being a terrorist?

I'm not exactly fond of most conservatives. But I'm not running around calling them Nazis. I have noticed that people rarely pay you any heed in discussions, because all you do is get shrill and yell at people for being socialists.

Therefore, you are paranoid, whereas I merely have an opinion that some people disagree with. Do I hate the conservatives on this board? No. Do I hate it when people run around making false accusations left and right? Yes. Do you run around making false accusations left and right? Yes.

Maybe they mixed up the no-fly list with the no-drive list. Teddy is not exactly the guy I would ask for a ride home.
