I saw him speak when I was in college. One of the reasons I felt more comfortable voting for him.

He also suprised me with what a good speaker he is. If I was new to the US and heard him speak I too would become a republican. He made it sound like a party of hope and prosperity.

Of course he's a good speaker. Could you imagine having them select a bad speaker, and having him spit that schmaltz out?

You can still be a good speaker while not having very much to say.

Nothing like flattery to seduce the simple minded.

Edit: Just listening to it on the iTMS. : nothing but demagogy, just like the other Austrian in the '30's..... Sad.

Here we go with the Hitler comparisons again. A sign of desperation, defeat, despair and primitive hatred.

It's a shame he can't run for President. What an excellent speech from someone with a more unique point of view than anyone who's born here.

Indeed. The party that preaches tolerance is the least so.

Now that I've actually heard the speech (and read the text) I'm a little disappointed. I can admit when a Republican makes a good speech, and well I did vote for this guy, but I thought it was not a particularly substantive speech.

The Republican party at it's core represents the individual. Arnie does a pretty good job of showcasing this. You can tell the guy genuinely feels comfortable in his own skin. I'm starting to conclude this is mostly a Republican trait.

John Kerry will lose because John Kerry doesn't know who John Kerry is.

And ? One is a valid comparison, the other is not.

Quite a few have compared Michael Moore's propaganda to that of Goebbels. I am making a valid comparison. Many others in the media have also made this comparison.

If you truly believe that Arnold's speech resembles that of an Adolf Hitler speech, then by all means, feel free and attempt to make the connection between the two. Link us to some web articles comparing Hitler's speeches with that of Arnold.

Start a topic, where people can discuss all of the simliarities between the two Austrians. See how many agree with you.

I was watching John Kerry on TV tonight giving a speech. It's like Al Gore, part deux. Boring. Dull. Wooden. Robotic. He could have bored the Viet Cong to death while in Viet Nam.

Asking a question because I suspected a bit of hypocrisy based on a previous post doesn't mean I thought that either comparison is valid. Just to be clear. Personally I don't think either one is valid. Thanks for answering my question.

An Austrain who jabs his finger while speaking furiously from a podium is always a worry, especially if they have been linked to racist and homophobic remarks, openly threatened business acquaintances in the past and assaulted women.

I like Arnold Schwarzenegger and I would have voted for him. I've heard speeches he's made and I think he is very charismatic and very talented speaker. The substance of his speeches ranges from small to average though - but when push comes to shove he's a good guy. He's the most liberal Republican I've ever seen.

No wonder the Republicans campaigned against him (i.e. sent McClintock - your typical grade Republican of the day) When Arnold chose his party he chose the party that was the winning party of the 80s. The decade when Arnold Schwarzenegger came to the US and became famous. I'd have done the same.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

The comparison was about the utter demagogy, not anything else. I was not saying that Arnold has the same ideas as Hitler..... They just turn out to be both Austrian-born preaching in another country. Sorry for the confusion.
This said, his speech was pretty void of substance.
