Didn't she cancel her last visit, 'cause some wacko palestinians threatened to kill her ?

I suppose the security will be tight indeed, as it said in that article.

When speaking about Madonna, I am sure security is the ONLY thing that is still tight.

And what is with her new fake British accent?

Fake British accent?

It's called "Personality Disorder."

She's always pretending to be something or someone else. She can't help it.

I remember when she embraced her Italian heritage. Then she said she "loved Spain and the Latin culture," (which is when she dated her daughter's father who is Spanish -- Carlos.) That was about the time she did Evita.

Now she's Jewish with her Kabbalah crap.

"I find it a bit sad that there is no photo of me hanging on the walls in the Berlin Museum at Checkpoint Charlie," he told the magazine.
David Hasselhoff thinks that about himself?

There's only one way to unite arabs and jews. Paula Abdul is both Jewish and Arab. So what we do is send Paula Abdul to the middle east, and hopefully...that will be the end of Paula Abdul.

She's still the "Material Girl":

But the real Kabbalah appears to have little to do with the new age phenomenon packaged and sold, often at a hefty price, by the Los Angeles-based Kabbalah Centre.

A piece of red string, tied around the wrist to get rid of the evil eye retails for nearly $50, and other inspirational products command similarly exorbitant price tags.
Down here in Boca Raton they have a "Kabbalah kiosk" (catchy, ain't it? ) in the mall (interestingly enough, it's right outside of the Apple Store -- which has a rocking business) and they peddle their kabbalah wares there. But you know what is interesting? The salesman doesn't wear a red "string" that is supposed to prove that he's a fellow kabbalist.

Good link, CD!

Yes, I'm reading that Madonna and her ilk are giving Kabbalah a bad name everywhere.

Kabbalah is probably very interesting. Too bad she's sensationalizing it and (perhaps inadvertently) making a mockery of it.

The part of Kabbalah I got into was all the math. Here is a picture of one of the symbols. Back in 7th grade I spent study halls trying to break down pi and the golden ratio into the Star of David. When you keep drawing the stars inside of each other you get the linked picture. Then I started fooling around with ratios and angles and stuff, and I remember finding something odd when I fooled around with it enough. I think I even made a little trace book that went from the Star to a bunch of ratios and some decently complex math. Lost it about a year ago.

Madonna is a poser. I wouldn't read anything from her. I hardly consider her a good source of information. Of course she makes a mockery out of it. She's an airhead who knows only how to spin a wheel to see what her next gimmick will be. She's gonna be a vet with an AK-47 next! Congratulations, Madonna—er, "Esther." Pfffft.

Didn't Brittany Spears get some Jewish letters tatooed on her back…backwards.

I never have either. It's just silly.

For almost 20 years I've studied Kabbalah, and the occult in general, Madonna and her kind aren't doing any harm to that study. There's always some celebrity who is trying grab on to the "mystical coat-tails" to get some notoriety, or a hint of infamy. The only one I've met, and I know of, who is serious about it is Maynard Keenan. We serious practitioners (lifers) just look at the others and roll our eyes. Before too long they lose interest because they just don't get it, the true understanding of it is a gift that comes from complete devotion and total dedication. Most celebrities just don't have the attention span for it.

As for the restrictions on Kabbalah, there are many reasons. The traditional requirements are as follows:

1. You must be Jewish, and a part of an active minyan. (This makes sense on many levels. To understand the symbols, terminology, and mindset it helps to adopt the faith formally.)

2. You must be male. (This is silly and outdated, usually overlooked by most teachers, even the Orthodox.)

3. You must be married. (So that you have a stable learning environment and fewer social distractions.)

4. You have to be at least 40. (Spiritual and emotional maturity is a must. Though the 40 year-old restriction is often "fudged" a bit, even among the Orthodox.)

However, these restrictions, for the most part, are only enforced in regards to the ultra-Orthodox. Most other teachers evaluate each student individually and only use the above restrictions as references.

Also, as an added footnote, most pratitioners don't usually take a "neophyte" seriously until they've studied for at least 10 years... this says a lot when evaluating celebrity "mystics".

Maybe she had it done that way so she could see them properly in a mirror?

Yes indeed. I don't know why people feel the need to project thoughts or feeling onto people.

And the Kabbalah_is what the "New Age Movement" was in the 80s.

It's the latest "Fad"

People that want to believe in "Christian like" values while still being looked at as "Cool and hip" usually do the Kabbalah thing.

IMHO of course.

Well, I will argue one point, most (non-Christian) occultists I know don't profess Christian-like values, they have their own codes of ethics. Yes, there are a few posers and pretenders who play that card, however they're usually sniffed out rather quickly and discredited (ala. Madonna).

Ok, I have another point. Kabbalah is hardly a "New Age" equivalent, it's quite ancient with roots that extend back over 30 centuries. Those who truly adopt the precepts and ideologies of the system(s) are very devout and invest their entire lives to "The Great Work". Usually this entails a level of devotion and commitment that most Christians can't comprehend. In fact, I usually ask Christians who are interested in Kabbalah to reconsider and choose the easier path to salvation. The path of the mystic/magician is painful and draining beyond the demands of any other belief structure. Very, very few are able to handle this and they break.

Madonna, wearing jeans, a black-and-gray checkered sweater with a matching cap and a large diamond encrusted letter E on a chain to symbolize her new name, spent more than an hour inside the stone mausoleum, placing candles on the tomb, praying and chanting.
She'll never be able to stop creating controversy no matter where she goes -- and it's evident that she's still the same: Money-oriented.

What do you expect from a girl who made her $millions$, in part, from a song named "Material Girl"? Kabbalah is, to a large degree, about minimalizing material wants. Some of her actions recently have shown me that she hasn't gotten that yet.

and a large diamond encrusted letter E on a chain to symbolize her new name
Mystic or pop star? You decide.

Kabbalah or not, I'd hit it.
I would too, with a stick... padded, of course, just to knock some sense into her.

Stein when I compared it to the "New Age movement" I mean it's popularity and "hipness" with the Hollywood crowd.

While such beliefs existed a long time ago, (It is dealing with the occult) It has been modernized.

Well, it (the occult) has always been hip with the Hollywood crowd, all the way back to the days of Cecil B. DeMille. You can tell by the occult influences behind many of the studio logos.

Yes, there have been quite a few modernizing touches to many systems, a lot of it is attributed to streamlining some of the theory and removal of many seemingly dogmatic practices. For the record, I'm not very fond of either approach and am pretty "old school" in most of my views and study. But, the occult in general has always been a rather progressive mechanism for spiritual self-development. Entire schools of thought appear and disappear on a fairly regular basis. One noteable constant, however, is the traditional Kabbalist philosophy, which is largely unchanged since Moses de Leon compiled the Zohar around 1200CE. Rabbi Berg and his group (of which Madonna is affiliated), aren't actually a part of it, and in traditionalist circles, have been discredited many, many times.

Umm... sorry to run on like that.

Ahh! MY fetish! Ohh sweet numbers! Ohh yeah!

I hate math. But it was like trying to solve something with nothing. I found out the long way that the Fibonacci numbers and golden ratio are related.
I still hate math and forgot most of that crap.

I suppose the security will be tight indeed, as it said in that article.
Mainstream press has been reporting for a few days it took months for Israel to review security for her visit. Not to mention she has her own security team, and bodyguards.

ANd she has the gonads to say:

"I realize now that it is no more dangerous to be here than it is to be in New York,"
As if we all don't walk around with bodyguards, and have a government review my itinerary and plan security accordingly.

Heck a few weeks ago I was in Spain. Before my visit, I had the government there go into high alert to make sure my stay would be nice.

Some celebs really think it's the norm.
I always use protection when fscking my Mac... Do you?
