With so many moviestars, rock stars, and people in the public eye revealing their political choices and preferences in the hope that their beliefs will influence those who are undecided, I am wondering if people are truly influenced by these tactics?

Ego, mostly.

It's extremely rewarding to think that if you say "EVERYONE THINK AND VOTE LIKE ME!" everyone will. And, many do.

The fact that acting is pretty much professional lying always leads me to think that celebrities have absolutely zero business stating their political views to a large audience (heh.)

I have a friend who lives in L.A. who refuses to date actors for the same reason: Can never tell if they're lying or not.

Good point.

Just so we're clear, I don't talk about reagan simply because I know little if anything about him. Not being alive at the time has a large influence on this stance.

The GOP can have all the stars in Hollywood on their side, for all I care. We don't want 'em

I'm going to venture a guess and say that the red x is Arnold.

He I'm not so sure about. He seems to be the exception that may end up disproving the rule. Time will ultimately tell about him, and the next bout of real elections here in California.

I've actually been of the mind that to announce that you're a conservative or Republican AND in the public eye is a no-no and something you're supposed to keep secret if you expect to keep working.

I understand that Sean "Puffy" Combs is a Republican and was supposed to appear at a rally with Laura Bush, yet did not. I can imagine publicists telling their clients, "SHHhhhh! Do NOT let people know that you're a Republican or we may have a problem getting you jobs in the future."

Seriously, there is a dearth of moviestar Republicans stumping for Bush right now.

Hrm. You're in California (like me), you say you don't want celebrities on your "side", and yet it's a well known fact that the most vocal and politlically minded celebrities are all democrats/liberals.

Okay...

So what's the point?
Are you worried that `too many public figures are afraid to sympathize with the wrong side'?

I don't care about celebrities supporting one side or the other, you'll always find both. SJ = Democrat, BG = Republican, P. Diddlidaddly = R, Natalie Portman = D, ... the list goes on and on and on and who cares?

Does it influence you, just because Natalie Portman is a Democrat? Will you stop buying Macs, because Our God (tm) is a Democrat? Or stop buying Office (for the Mac, of course), although Gates is a Republican?

Relax, think whatever you think and don't be afraid to be contaminated with thoughts of the Other Side.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Where did you hear that?

As the day closed, Diddy remained firmly in the middle of the road and committed to bringing his issues to the candidates. "I am nonpartisan," he explained of his equal-opportunity ambush. "I'm gonna stick my nonpartisan foot up Bush's ass, up Kerry's ass. Republicans and Democrats, my foot is so way up your ass right now it's crazy."
