WASHINGTON - Teresa Heinz Kerry says she doesn't know if first lady Laura Bush has ever had "a real job" and suggests their different experiences help make them different people.
Laura Bush taught in public schools in Texas from 1968 to 1977, the year she married George W. Bush.
In an interview published Wednesday in USA Today, the newspaper asked the wife of Democratic candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) if she would be different from Laura Bush as a first lady.
"Well, you know, I don't know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm, and she has a sparkle in her eye, which is good," Heinz Kerry said. "But I don't know that she's ever had a real job — I mean, since she's been grown up. So her experience and her validation comes from important things, but different things."
Heinz Kerry said she sees her age as a benefit — she is 66 and Bush 57. "I'm older, and my validation of what I do is a little bit bigger — because I'm older, and I've had different experiences. And it's not a criticism of her. It's just, you know, what life is about," she said.
Karen Hughes, an adviser to President Bush (news - web sites), criticized Heinz Kerry's remarks as "indicative of an unfortunate mind-set that seeks to divide women.

Teresa Gold Digger Heinz Ketchup Kerry has today apoligized for these remarks after she discovered that she was wrong on the facts as usual.
Sort of like her attacks on Wal-Mart as a evil company but owning huge blocks of Wal-Mart stock in her portfolio.

Crappy answer, as she obviously didn't know much about Laura Bush. But the article later says she apologized, which is good at least:
In a statement issued Wednesday, Heinz Kerry said: "I had forgotten that Mrs. Bush had worked as a school teacher and librarian, and there couldn't be a more important job than teaching our children. As someone who has been both a full-time mom and full-time in work force, I know we all have valuable experiences that shape who we are. I appreciate and honor Mrs. Bush's service to the country as first lady and am sincerely sorry I had not remembered her important work in the past."

Of course not. You work only 2/3 of the year, don't have to work in the Summer, get to play with kids all day... damn, it sounds like a joke! People actually get paid for that?!? Nah, she should have gotten herself a real job, like being born into a ultra-wealthy family.

She appears to have been some sort of combination between a housewife and a political wife (two very different things, despite how it might first seem). Is THK trying to invalidate this choice which Laura Bush made?
As the husband of a teacher, by the way, I am deeply offended at her implication that teaching school is not a "real job". If anything, my wife works harder than I do, and gets far less pay and respect for it.
Come to think of it, what exactly has THK done, besides inheriting a ketchup empire? This is an honest question.

How exactly does this make her experiences "more valid", is my next question?

Seems she forgot to consider being a MOTHER a full-time job. That kinda sucks.

It depends on how you define valid I guess.
It would seem that her career has effected greater positive change in the world. ::shrug::

What the cripes is THAT supposed to mean? SURELY you aren't actually going to say that a mother rearing her children does not constitute a full-time job? Please oh PLEASE tell me you don't really think being a Mom is not a Real Job? SURELY you aren't attempting to piss off MILLIONS of women all over the globe with such a horrible comment.

I didn't say it wasn't a real job, far from it!
I meant that there are mothers out there who have children as well as a successful career...which IMO is much more of a challenge than just raising children.

Bet their children aren't as well raised either. One of the parents needs to be at home with the kids for the first 5 years, at least until the kid starts school. No one is going to love and care for your kids as well as you do.

THK obviously didn't mean any personal harm towards LB with her comments. But that's kind of what makes her comments so bad. It would seem as if, by her rants (this and others), blind arrogance of this nature is just common place for her.

Laura Bush's response "It didn't matter to me. It didn't hurt my feelings. It was perfectly all right that she apologized. She didn't have to apologize. I know how tough it is. And actually I know those trick questions." Was the type of response I expected from her, classy . It didn't cause more issues and it put the issue to rest. She is one of the Main reasons why I'm voting for Bush. Because I can only imagine the first time Teresa shoots her mouth off about or to some foreign leader.

How true -- Laura's one of the classiest women on God's Earth. As for Mrs. Bush's response, it reminds me of how a mother sometimes has to apologize for her kid's bad behavior, ya know?
I shudder to think of THK being the First Lady. Great Lord in Heaven, please don't let it happen!

THK would just climb back into a bottle of whatever she pickles herself in, not to be seen or heard from again... if we're lucky.

Part of the reason Kerry will lose the election is because of his wife.
She just does not know when to shut up already.
From her screaming at a reporter to "shove it," to telling people to "go naked," to telling people how to cure their arthritis by "eating gin-soaked white raisins - ONLY WHITE raisins," to making comments about how Laura Bush never worked, she should shut her pie hole already.

I don't expect Mrs Kerry to be an average citizen. Ain't many average citizens with a lifestyle that supports a $35million private jet with gold-plated fixtures, FIVE mansions, and a million dollar yacht.

I don’t see where she did any ‘quite a lot’ on her own before she had Heinz’s money. Normally that wouldn’t be any big deal, but she certainly has no room to bag on Laura Bush.
For the record, I’d almost give her the benefit of the doubt, that she was simply saying she actually didn’t know if Laura Bush had a job or not- almost. The reason I’m inclined to think that isn’t the case is that the Kerry campaign has an obvious track record of declaring the family members of Bush/Cheney ‘fair game’ and it seems that even this could be part of their plan. Just float something stupid to try to smear Laura. It really makes no sense to even bring up the subject of Laura Bush’s employment history other than that. Plus it does fit with the rotten, snotty attitude that THK has displayed before.
I find it amusing that she’s the type of person Democrats normally love to demonize and cast as the root of all evil: (has insane amounts of money she didn’t earn. Doesn’t pay her ‘fair share’ of taxes, is a snob, etc.) but because she’s on board to shamelessly get her Democrat candidate husband elected, why suddenly she’s recast as another of those ‘smartest women that ever existed’, salt of the earth, can do no wrong, Hillary types. Comedy relief!

So the vast majority of women in this country, who work full-time jobs, are bad mothers, eh? Maybe you haven't noticed, but she's 66 years old, and her children are grown ups, who didn't turn out so bad.

Where, oh where, did you come to the conclusion that my comment -- the comment you quoted -- hinted or made allusions to lead you to believe I was claiming "the vast majority of women in this country, who work full-time jobs, are bad mothers"?
Please tell me how you got such an interpretation from my quote?

I think there's a decently high chance that I'm not reading this post in the correct context... but what makes you think that Kerry will change any of this?
