They should, or else put up displays for other religions as well.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

Let them stay up but we'll have to make up a cartoon character like a Moon with a little turban and beard that helped save ramadan or something else to put on the banner, maybe a Weight Watchers logo. But as they are you can't leave them up on city property.

Nativity scenes on public property are constitutional as long as there is a secular symbol of the holiday that appears as part of the display. So its cool as long as there is a Rudolph in there or a bunny on Easter. If the banners are strictly to honor something religious they are a no-no because the ACLU and 60's liberals made a big fuss over this stuff.

On top of that, I believe that lamposts aren't considered public fora under time, manner, and place First Amendment law. Nobody should be hanging anything on them.

So I don’t get it. I knew this was a non-story because this had nothing to do with Islam or Muslims from the start. But I can only infer that you posted this because you felt there was some sort of discrimination at work here. So if you really believed that why have you had no comment on the matter? I know you go trolling for news stories that help you give the impression that everyone is out to get Muslims but have you really nothing to say about your own threads? Clearly this was rebuffed with virtually no effort but if this is what you are going to be doing then why bother starting a thread when you have nothing to say nor anything to defend?

Welcome to the era of "happy holidays" told to you by a talking snowman standing next to Santa.
You people should get yourself some gimmick too, you'll make millions on holiday sales. I can see it now... hand-knit color holiday hijabs, some dude ringing a bell with a little red bucket for the Jihad Army, store windows telling the tale of the October War, and you can adapt Scrooge so he becomes a fundamentalist at the end. It'll be sweet.

No, the government doesn’t say merry christmas, joyous noel, happy birthday jesus, or shabbat shalom. Oh, but they do throw up things about kwanza all over the place. But then again that is about as made up as Rudolph.
That’s how we work now. Again, thank people like Lerk and Karl for this genius. I wasn’t even born when this trend began. I am not “sensitive™" to other people’s crap. I don't "care"
I’d let you keep up your banners since the area is mostly muslim businesses. Just like I would let banners up in the jewelry district for Rosh Hashanah or in the cologne district for Columbus Day. I am cool like that.

As has been pointed out, there are no such banners put up by any state or locality because to put them up would violate the establishment clause. If you knew more about the country you post so relentlessly about, you would know that.

You would also know that "Happy Christmas" is a Britishism. In the US it is always Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. Never Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year.

So, will they be putting up the Merry Christmas, Good Yom Tov (yom kippur), Happy Hannukah, Happy Easter, Kwanazaa banners?

If not, why are Ramadan banners the exception?
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.
