Well, sort of. This video is of him talking about the why Bush Sr. didn't get rid of Saddam after the Gulf War.

After explaining that we had 146 American casualties in the Gulf War, Cheney says that the president had to ask "How many additional dead Americans is Saddam worth? And our judgment was not very many, and I think we got it right."

Yes, I realize that the circumstances are different, but it does give one pause.

Dubya's Daddy on occupying Iraq:
"Whose life would be on my hands as the commander-in-chief because I, unilaterally, went beyond the international law, went beyond the stated mission, and said we're going to show our macho?" he asked. "We're going into Baghdad. We're going to be an occupying power -- America in an Arab land -- with no allies at our side. It would have been disastrous."
Another one from an article by Bush 41 and Scowcroft:
We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq. The coalition would instantly have collapsed, the Arabs deserting it in anger and other allies pulling out as well. Under those circumstances, furthermore, we had been self-consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in the post-cold war world. Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the U.N.'s mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the U.S. could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land. It would have been a dramatically different--and perhaps barren--outcome.

In a somewhat loosely drawn analogy a cop stops a driver for running a stop light but lets him off with a warning. (Why do cops let us off with warnings? Lots of reasons. Hey, maybe he wants to be a nice guy or maybe he wants to hurry home after his shift to spend time with his pregnant wife. Who knows?)

Well, the driver peels away from the curb and speeds through a red light and almost hits another car in the intersection.

No more Mr. Nice Cop. The wife will have to wait. This guy is going to jail.

Saddam broke the law and did many very bad things between 1991 and 2003.

He deserves worse than jail. His country deserves better. We will work to see both get their just 'deserves.'
