The outcome of Washington Redskins home football games has correctly predicted the winner of every U.S. presidential election since 1936.

The Washington Redskins have proved to be a time-tested election predictor. In the previous 15 elections, if the Washington Redskins have lost their last home game prior to the election, the incumbent party has lost the White House. When they have won, the incumbent has stayed in power.

This election year, that deciding game takes place on Sunday, October 31 ... vs. Green Bay.

Also...

If the Red Sox or Cardinals win the World Series in an election year, the Democrat always wins the election.

"from baseball-reference.com.

When St. Louis or Boston wins the World Series...
1892: Boston Beaneaters win Championship Series. Grover Cleveland (D) defeats Harrison (R) and Weaver (Populist) 277-145-22.
1912: Red Sox win. Wilson (D) humiliates Roosevelt (R) 435-88.
1916: Red Sox win. Wilson (D) sneaks by Hughes (R) 277-254.
1944: Cardinals win. FDR (D) obliterates Dewey )R) 432-99.
1964: Cardinals win. Johnson (D) destroys Goldwater (R) 486-52.

On the other hand, when St. Louis loses...
1888: St. Louis Browns lose. Harrison (R) beats Cleveland (D) 233-168.
1928: Cards lose. Hoover (R) shellacks Smith (D) 444-87.
1968: Cards lose. Nixon (R) beats Humphrey (D) and Wallace (American Independence) 301-191-46."

Past precedents are worthless in modern political predictions.

[I can't imagine the Redskins ever winning. ]

The Boston Beaneaters are now the Atlanta Braves; they're not the Red Sox.

Of course, I'd like to see them go back to Boston -- then we could have a T series.

Of course, I don't believe in this nonsense, but this precedent DOES go back to 1936 and EVERY FOUR YEARS SINCE THEN HAS COME TRUE

Also, if you can't imagine the redskins winning you haven't been paying attention they have won more times than lost (9 wins 8 losses)

But this year looks like loss #9, good news for Kerry? we'll see.
