Since the polls are not doing their job in telling us who will win, we need some sure-fire way to predict who will win so we can lay some money out in the futures markets.

To that end, sometimes fact is stranger than fiction.

And the Redskins have cast their vote:[link] [corroborated]

Sometimes fiction is just amusing.

The Aliens have turned on Bush: [link to WWN]

What are some of the most bizarre electoral correlations and/or endorsements you've seen?

Weekly Reader predicts Bush. They've been correct since 1956.

The Family Circle cookie bake-off has predicted Bush this year. They are 3-0 since 1992.

The taller candidate criteria is 8-3 since 1960. Some think taller candidates look more presidential. Kerry gets the nod on this one.

Here's a summary: [link] I left out the 7-11 coffee poll as it is only in it's second year, and they predicted 3rd party/no opinion last time.

So we're running 3-2 for Kerry with the ones posted so far. (3-3 if you count the 7-11 poll.)

Any others?

Its fun to see all this superstitious junk. Should be interesting to see which ones hold up and which ones get broken this year.

CNN had something the other day about if the stock market loses more than 0.5% in the month prior to the election, the incumbent has always lost... since 1904. So chalk that up in Kerry's column I guess, because the Dow lost something like 0.6% last month. Also, every time the Red Sox have won the World Series in an election year (1912 and 1916) the Democratic candidate has won!

On the other hand, I think the venerable Halloween mask sales race went to Bush this year. Don't recall how many elections that indicator has successfully predicted.
