Moonbat is a pejorative political slogan coined by Perry de Havilland of "The Libertarian Samizdata,". The term enjoys great currency in the right wing blogosphere, where it is used to disparage liberals, peace protestors, and other ideological opponents. SEE ALSO: Feminazi, Idiotarian

Definitions

1. "Someone on the extreme edge of whatever their -ism happens to be." (de Havilland )

2. "someone who sacrifices sanity for the sake of consistency" (Adriana Cronin)

3. "... human whose cerebral cortex has turned to silly putty causing him or her to mentally slide down the evolutionary ladder to the level of a winged rat who is influenced by the moon and wants to suck your blood. Also not-so-affectionately known as a "Democrat"." (www.barking-moonbat.com F.A.Q)

4. Not liberals, but leftists. Whereas liberals are patriotic, leftists seek to undermine their national strength. Anti-war protestors, likely to call the US military "nazis," apt to blame the 9-11 attacks on a US government and Zionist conspiracy, are moonbats. Liberals who oppose the war, are not.

5. A poster at the liberal/progressive website Democratic Underground.

I think definition #2 is particularly definitive for these folks.

Someone needs to tell them that they aren't being made fun of for being leftist.

They're just kooks. The same video could be made against the extreme far-right wackos.

It was a funny video! Thanks for linking to it.

Crazy chick in video: "Carl Rove's a Nazi. So is Bush. I mean, they use those tactics."

And those tactics would be genocide I suppose? Oy..

That's how America is spelled in numerous foreign countries (like Africa or Germany) because they don't have a letter "c" or a "ku" sound for the letter "c" in some or all of their languages and dialects.

Your ignorance continues to amaze me.

Wasn't this video shot in the US, with US citizens? Thus the spelling is wrong. Personally, I believe the person purposely misspelled it for some "statement."

I don't think he is commenting on the spelling on that sign. Just it's stupidity and it's electrical tape letters.

Your ignorance does not amaze me. I expect it.

Yes he was, and you were just looking for an excuse to insult me.

(Cue Zimphire agreeing with Killbey because he didn't think of it himself. Post smiley.)

Sorry. I wasn't looking for an excuse.

You sure seem to know people a lot better than they know themselves. Except you're completely wrong.

That video rocks;

"ya know, we might have to kill somebody I don't know..."

If you listen closely in the background you can hear a woman screaming; "I'M PREGNANT!!!"

You know, the movement starts with our youth! What a bunch of morons. I wished they had asked questions of the ones claiming Republican ignorance. like; can you locate Iraq on this map? How much is the US expected to make in oil profits from Iraq? Who was the first american president...questions like that, you know, to prove their intellectual prowess!

Yes Ole, I know that.

But tell me, would me writing in say French, while spelling words in English be pretty ignorant of me?

Yes, yes it would.

Not to mention we have no idea of the reason or intention of said ignorant person.

Nice knee jerk there.

Take it easy on him, he's just emulating Our Leader. Or did you laugh out loud and call Our Leader a dunce when he uttered the exact same gaffe?

No, he's just the Leader of the Free World™ so he gets a pass on having the brains to know whether Africa is a nation or a continent.

Thanks for proving my point.

Far from it. I know you can read. Here's the deal. you make fun of a stranger on the internet for making a gaffe, but it's the exact same gaffe that you give Our Leader a pass for. If someone is an idiot for saying a particular thing, how can another person not be an idiot for saying that exact same thing unless you are applying a double-standard?

Your blinkers are showing.

I never gave W a "pass" for it. Either way, it's stupid. I've never said George is the sharpest knife in the drawer... but, considering how many speeches the man gives in a year, there are sure to be some discrepancies. I'd like to see his statistics compared to Bubba, Reagan, Carter, etc.. I'd venture to say, they're not that dissimilar.

Exactly. He pulled the whole W thing out his lower orifice and is now throwing tantrums because it didn't work.

It had nothing to do with your obsession with George W. Bush. The point (that obviously flew over your head like a 747) wasn’t that people don’t make mistakes, it’s that it’s hypocritical to snidely call someone else ignorant and pretend to correct their ‘mistakes’, while making blatantly ignorant gaffes of your own. Get it? Or is that too difficult a concept to grasp?

You’d have a point if Bush was calling someone ignorant when he made the gaffe, but I’m not aware that he was.

Exactly and that is why his little knee jerking straw man didn't work.

I am sure he is going to do his best to find one.
