What ever the reason someone would do this, it just baffles me that they could be so heartless and cruel. At least the poor woman didn't fall for it.

Find the guy and make him go with a real notification team to a couple dozen households and see the process first-hand. Then make him go to all the funerals and burials. Let the f***er see just how terrible it is for those who have lost a loved-one.

If he is some kind of twisted anti-war peacenik trying to make a "statement" I'll give him a beatdown personally. I am opposed to those who sent our soldiers over there but I have no quarrel with the soldiers themselves. They have my utmost respect for what they do and what they must endure.

One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

That's why he's gonna kill us. So we got to beat it. Yeah. Before he let's loose the marmosets on us."

Not a bad idea. And arguably more likely to convince the culprit of the error of his ways than a beating.

Of course, anyone who would consider this a "prank" might not have the kind of capacity for appreciating human suffering that we think they should.

Something seriously wrong with this person, that much seems clear.

Surely this must be some kind of aggravated form of fraud. The emotional distress this guy is causing aside, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a crime to impersonate an officer in the armed forces, just as it's a crime to impersonate a police officer. The First Amendment guarantees the right to free speech, but it is not a shield against prosecution from other crimes.
