Does anyone else think that this kid and his father are going way overboard in this?

The United States has no official language as far as I know. I am pretty sure that some states have made laws otherwise, but not the US government. I just don't understand why this kid is getting so upset.

The school is doing this for a WEEK ONLY. They are trying to celebrate diversity and show all the different places that their students come from. We did this all the time when I was in HS. I went to a catholic school, and during Jewish holidays Jewish students would recite Jewish prayers in Hebrew over the intercom instead of the standard catholic ones. No one complained.

I just don't understand what this kid can have such a problem with. So what if we have soldiers at war? Do he not realize that there are soldiers of other nationalities that have helped us in Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other wars throughout this nations history?

We should be honoring everyone that wants to come to this country for freedom, not protesting a one week long celebration of our diversity. No matter what language they say the pledge in, they are still pledging to America. Not only that, It was only for A WEEK. They weren't even forcing kids to say it in other languages, it was just bring broadcast in another language.

This will probably turn into a debate about whether the pledge should be said at all or how foreigners need to learn english, but since this story isn't about either lets just keep it to how much of an asshat this kid is and how much he is over reacting.

The kid sounds very young...

I guess I don't see much wrong with them saying the pledge of allegiance in foreign languages for a week. It's not a permanent thing.

I think it would actually be interesting to hear it in Russian.

What I find amazing is that a majority (or plurality) of respondents in this MSNBC online poll agreed that "saying the Pledge of Allegiance in foreign languages is disrespectful to the country."

It's the ****ing Pledge Of Allegiance — how is that disrespectful to the country? Truly incredible. I wish more Americans would understand that English was not delivered to the people in tablets on Sinai, you know?
