U.S. to offer Iran incentives to drop nuclear program
U.S. to offer Iran incentives to drop nuclear program
Last Updated Fri, 11 Mar 2005 18:23:43 EST
CBC News
WASHINGTON - The Bush administration will offer economic incentives to Iran to end that country's purported nuclear weapons programs, an apparent shift in Washington's hardline stance against co-operating with Tehran.
Dealing with the Axis of Evil...
tsk. tsk. tsk.

Because Iran is strong enough to defend itself?

Interesting, and unexpected. Looks like the admin. is aligning itself more closely with the current EU diplomatic efforts.

But since when do we give deal to the terrorists? Its like we are trying to give them a ransom in exchange for their nukes.

Looks like it dosnt matter:
Neither threats nor incentives will alter Iran's pursuit of its nuclear program, the Iranian foreign ministry said Saturday, defying new moves by the European Union and the United States to ensure Tehran never develops a nuclear bomb.

The American government (note, not necessarily always by the choice of all the American people) has been giving deals to terrorists for years, as they followed the principle of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Osama being trained and financed by the CIA during the USSR / Afghanistan conflict is only one example. In an ironic twist of fate Rumsfield used to be the special envoy to the middle east, and helped sell US weapons to Saddam Hussien in the early 80's.

I know all this. I was just trying point out how the government went from not taking the diplomatic route with Iraq and taking a hard line against terrorists, and now trying to buy a member of the axis of evil off with economic resources. Giving them ransom in a way, even as we scorn Italy for doing the same. Maybe I should have have clearer in my sarcasm.

Well, there's always Plan B:
Revealed: Israel plans strike on Iranian nuclear plant
ISRAEL has drawn up secret plans for a combined air and ground attack on targets in Iran if diplomacy fails to halt the Iranian nuclear programme.
The inner cabinet of Ariel Sharon, the Israeli prime minister, gave “initial authorisation” for an attack at a private meeting last month on his ranch in the Negev desert.
Israeli forces have used a mock-up of Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment plant in the desert to practise destroying it. Their tactics include raids by Israel’s elite Shaldag (Kingfisher) commando unit and airstrikes by F-15 jets from 69 Squadron, using bunker-busting bombs to penetrate underground facilities.

Oh!
Iran agrees to postpone temporarily uranium enrichment
CARACAS, Venezuela: Iran has agreed to postpone temporarily uranium enrichment to show the world it is not trying to create nuclear weapons, Iran's president said Saturday.
The comments by Iranian President Mohammad Khatami came one day after the U.S. government softened its stance on Iran's nuclear program and agreed to support a European plan that offers economic incentives to Tehran to give up any weapons ambitions.
"We have accepted postponing the activities of uranium enrichment in a voluntary way and only temporarily, even though we have no obligation,'' Khatami said through an interpreter.
"We are ready to cooperate with the world to give more certainty that Iran is not moving toward the creation of nuclear arms,'' he said. - AP
