"Many voters in last year's presidential election were denied access to the polls through trickery and intimidation, former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry told a voters' group Sunday."

You'd also have to be some sort of stupid to believe that traffic ticket thing

"Kerry has never disputed the outcome of election, saying voting irregularities did not involve enough votes to change the result. Bush won the pivotal state of Ohio by 118,000 votes, giving him enough electoral votes to win re-election."

Well at least he is still being honest.

BTW, this happens on Both sides. I know Kerry doesn't want people to know this though.

Which is why he has no chance of ever winning. People vote for what they want to hear, not what they don't want to hear. Liars will always be the victor.

Yes because Kerry never lied in the last election.

Oh yeah and he told people his plans and what he stood for and made it clear to the people.

Oh wait, not he wasn't, he was ambiguous and basically told the public what they wanted to hear.

I think America needs to start holding a higher standard for their president. Ever since Reagan, I haven't been impressed.

Unless some laws get changed, no he isn't.

I'd rather see Rudy in there. Someone with substance.

This can't say anything nice, shouldn't have said it at all, all of his posts in the Politics lounge are based on the flimsiest logic which he gleens from skimming over some internet article. And furthermore, he usually highlights issues that are months old, or, as in the case with the WMD thread, years old. Get with the program!

I've been thinking about this, and I've come to the conclusion that to Democrats -not necessarily liberals, but Democrats in particular, conservative and liberal alike- this is a strength of Kerry's, not a weakness.

Allow me to explain. It would be a mistake to say that Democrats stand for nothing. However, their view of politics places the elected official in the role of a delegate; his beliefs are irrelevant when weighed against the will of his constituents. To follow the polls, in such a system, is merely a way of responsibly keeping up to date with what your constituents want. A person who does this, according to the Democrats, would be a fine politician indeed. To attempt to use "flip-flopper" or "waffler" as an insult to Kerry doesn't mean much when you're telling it to a Democrat, because by their way of thinking it isn't an insult at all, aside from the negative connotations of the word. This would also explain why Democrats tend to get so defensive about it: by using such a negative term, you are insulting not the politician, but rather that person's whole way of thinking about politics.

Interestingly enough, this also explains why when Democrats accuse Bush of flip-flopping, it never comes out quite right. They're trying to turn back an insult that they don't fully comprehend -how can they, when it's not really an insult to them?- and so they don't end up using the best possible examples. It's like trying to insult someone in a language you don't understand. It is rare to see a Republican accuse a Democrat of being "dogmatic" or "stubborn", but when it does happen similar problems arise.

Funny, "Blue Staters" have been making all sorts of "Red Staters are stupid" jokes, statements, etc. Yet anyone moronic enough to fall for half of these so-called "intimidations" would have to be a dyed-in-the-wool dumbass.

And all this supposedly happened in predominantly Democrat (Blue) areas.

Who's stupid now?

Anyone who was impressed by Reagan (He resurrected the battleship and the B1) and is impressed by Rudy (whose greatest claim to fame is public consoling of victims and private dissing of his wife) and Arnold (who made money) is a real Republican. The last good president who reassigned nuclear targets in the USSR, started the cruise missile and B2 weapons programs, and withdrew support for foreign dictators-which all led to the bankruptcy of the Soviets was Jimmy Carter and before him was Harry Truman. All the rest kept the chair warm. sam PS-I held my nose when I voted for Kerry. Russ Feingold was the senator who opposed the "Patriot" act.

Jimmy Carter didn't bankrupt the Soviets.

Oh man, you could have picked tons of presidents, but Jimmy Carter!!!!

I liked the guy don't get me wrong. But he was not a good president.

And SWF, Clinton said the same things Bush did about Iraq. Almost word for word.

Those old battleships served with distinction in the Gulf War as the only surface vessels that could still conduct a ship-to-shore bombardment without using expensive missiles, which enabled them to assist wth a vital diversion that ended up saving hundreds or thousands of Coalition lives. They also launched their retrofitted cruise missiles at Iraqi targets just like the Spruance- and Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and the Ticonderoga-class cruiser did. They were excellent for the Gulf War naval scene...which shows some pretty smart planning on Reagan's CNO, SECDEF, and SECNAV.

Back on topic...why are we still debating an election for which we recieved the results almost 6 months ago?

Congratulations, you are qualified to project social security earnings in 2080 for our shrub. Battleship crews cost more than 100k$ x 1000 crewmen = 100 million per year. Cruise missiles are less expensive. B-1Bs cost far more than B-2s and have been far less effective. We are still debating the election because your side is in court demanding a new election for governor in my state of Washington. Yes, you actually lost an election and are crying about it. Strangely enough, we agree. We are willing to revote here if you will accept a revote in Ohio. sam (designer of LHA, DD-963 B-1A, B-2, Darkstar,...

I'm talking about the relative cost of a 16-inch shell vs. a million-dollar TLAM.
