Meh. Seemed like a good idea at the time...

But seriously, why does everyone have to make generalizations? (See, I do it too.)

France has a proud history. Great food. Interesting culture.

So do lots of other countries.

Never mind...

You can tell a lot about a person from the way they regard France.

If a person really hates France, then they are either insecure or just stuck in the idiocy of provincial life.

If a person is indifferent towards France, or thinks France is a decent place to visit, then they are well-travelled and intelligent. They know enough about France to enjoy what is has to offer, while at the same time they know that it is far from perfect.

If a person really loves France then there is something wrong with him or her. France is good but it isn't great, get over it.

So, you're making no allowance for the people who've visited and still hate it? Typical hippie logic there - "if you don't agree with my view you're insecure, retarded or an uneducated redneck".
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

Yep.

It's a bit like people who say "if you don't agree with me then you are a typical hippie."

If I thought highly of my country I'd make sure its name was visible below my username.

If I thought my country kinda sucked, I'd hide its identity.

You're right! It is almost as stupid and lame as "If you aren't with us, you are against us."

And there are many good Fench people. I believe it was the Finance Minister or somehting like that who wants to succeed Chirac? And he is conservative? I dunno, but I swear I heard something like that. And you are also right about France's proud history.

But great food, a proud history, and an interesting culture will not make the recent actions of their government go away. History can only prove context for the current situation--it cannot change the current situation.
