I mean, c'mon, barely the size of Texas and so irrelevant to the world matters in their opinion. But why can't American conservatives stop talking about France? Jealousy? Envy? I can see why they would be that but that is funny.

Prob because Canucks fight back when Yanks attack us so now they are looking for weak targets that they think they can beat. Hehe reminds of me the last few wars they had.

My best guess is that they see in France a dark vision of the US' own future: decadent, snobbish, largely irrelevant, but clinging desperately to what little they have left and filled with delusions of grandeur. In other words, a once-great empire in the final stages of decline. Note that I do not necessarily share these views; I'm just pointing out what I believe to be the common perception of France among conservatives. They look at France and see themselves in fifty years, and it scares the bejeezus out of them.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

decadent, snobbish, delusions of grandeur sounds like the US is half way there?

See my point? These things are all matters of opinion, but most conservatives believe the US is sliding quickly into decadence if it's not there already, and to them this is the first sign of decline. To them, France is simply further along the slippery slope, but it's where the US is headed if something is not done to halt the process. Is it any wonder they would be afraid?

Good points. I think it is because they share a lot of attributes they themselves find offensive. Patriotism (in my point of view, too much patriotism, but ok).

BTW, the title of the thread just got fixinated.

They hate the French because they envy them, since it is the greatest country in the world.
