Brian says (9:16 AM): I was looking at houses in Ottawa... I actually have a temptation in me to move
Jeff ******* says (9:19 AM): Eww, Ottawa is gross. It's infested with politicians, and presently, 1 Harper as well.

In 3 1/2 years things will get better at the federal level. We'll have Newt Gingrich as president.

Good point.

So, now instead of a compliant and acquiescent voter base BOTH parties are going to have to contend with a bunch of pissed off, suspcious traditionally democratic voters who will be LESS likely to AUTOMATICALLY go along with ANY political big daddy.

It's going to be tougher to govern.

An aside which is sorta germane here.

I was watching another 9/11 documentary on A&E the other night and the conventional wisdom, that which guided the firefighters in the twin towers told the physically challenged to wait on the 21st floor for someone to come get them and, sadly, no one ever did. But the people who saw them following orders now realize that following the orders of the "authorities" isn't going to guarantee deliverance. Just like the people in NOLA who followed orders and waited for big daddy to deliver.

It's not a minor change we're talking about here. This is major, I think.

Spliffdaddy and I came up with the same conclusions as David Brooks of the NY Times. Folks, use your own good sense. Don't think that only the MSM can arrive at the truth.
Give petty people just a little bit of power and watch how they misuse it! You can't silence the self doubt, can you?

I think it's clear that the usual conservative mentality "every man for himself" doesn't work in cases like these.

Authorities have to step up and take action and responsibility. Take a look at the typhoon in Taiwan/China; 600.000 people have been forced to evacuate. That's how it works.
