Rule number 8?

Eighth rule of the Political Lounge: No posting and running. Give an opinion, your slant, anything in regards to what you're posting. Simply posting a news story and no context or direction is not conducive to fostering discussion. Avoid it.

No wonder we don't see Moki here anymore.

To be honest, though, I think my title was my comment. I'll spell it out though: The president takes heat for leading a debacle of a disaster rescue/relief effort, and then says he'll investigate himself. \

The posted news story is classic "real news" in BBC's style. Well written and fair, it's a good piece that addresses the issue from a number of angles and doesn't take sides. So why is it in the Political forum?

Any round housing and zapping can START with the title. Could it be any less attention getting?
Give petty people just a little bit of power and watch how they misuse it! You can't silence the self doubt, can you?

I thought it was rather clever. But that's just me judging myself.

Oh, sounds familiar: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4220246.stm

The more people that investigate this debacle, the better. This is not a partisan issue, no matter how anyone tries to make it so. Those that died weren't republicans or democrats, they were human beings, American citizens, and the government, from the bottom to the top, failed them in a monumental way. The reason that was allowed to happen needs to be found, and the things that caused such a breakdown need to be fixed. It’s inexcusable that it happened once; the government of this country owes it to us to make sure it never happens again.

And frankly, I would have a far bigger problem with this if the President didn’t order an investigation into such a failing of the people. If he hadn’t promised an investigation, we’d be reading a “Why isn’t Bush investigating this?” thread.

Amen. And the more the merrier. I think it will take singular authority to get to the bottom of this without all of the partisan BS.
He can be fixed -- you can't.

He's not ORDERING and investigation of himself, he is LEADING an investigation of himself.

And here your desired target is exposed again.

The investigation is on the handling of the Katrina disaster, not Bush. I'm sure he knows much more about the red-tape obstacles experienced than most.

Bit ironic isn't it?

Bush is part of the handling of the Katrina disaster. He is the President. The buck stops with him.

I'm sure people will trust the results of Bush's inquiry because he can do no wrong, but to anyone looking on impartially - surely him leading the investigation would prejudice its outcome?

It’s hilarious how libs often crow about ‘nuance’. Then, inevitably, before even the remotest shred of even the bare minimum of facts are in, they jump to the most simple-minded, one-sided, black and white conclusions worse than anyone else of any poltical stripe, IE: “It’s all BUSH’S FAULT! WAHH!”

‘Nuance’!
