Sorry Republicans, this may tick you off a little, but I think it is quite funny.... (it's obviously a fake):

Wow. Your definitions of "brilliant" and "funny" must be different than mine.

Not only is that unnecessarily disrespectful to Mr. Bush, it is disrespectful (imo) to the gravity of the Hurricane Katrina situation, as well as those affected by it. Making fun of W can be fun; he is a funny guy who does (says) a lot of funny things (intentionally or otherwise). But try to have some class.

Well, given that he's garnering a reputation for fiddling while Rome burns, I'd say it isn't disrespectful to the Katrina situation. It's just juxtaposing how important it is with how Bush et al seem to be treating it.
It's classy enough, given the point it's trying to make.

It's a parody of Bush's display of tact and perhaps a slight political statement relating to the fact that he has taken a ton of vacation days, a political caricature. It is well done, looking at it through the lens of a caricature, regardless of your political viewpoints.
I knew this would hurt the feelings of those emotionally invested in the Bush administration. I'm sorry to those who found this tasteless for other reasons, I can see how this might be so. I'm not always the best judge of tasteful humor.
I hope that some find it amusing.

I'm a LIBERTARIAN. I'm sure I wrote that before for you.
I just have good taste and class, and I'm entitled to my opinion too right? You wouldn't shut me down because I just disagree with your definition of "brilliant" would you?
Brilliant:
Full of light; shining. See Synonyms at bright.
Relating to or being a hue that has a combination of high lightness and strong saturation.
Sharp and clear in tone.
Glorious; magnificent: the brilliant court life at Versailles.
Superb; wonderful: The soloist gave a brilliant performance.
Marked by unusual and impressive intellectual acuteness: a brilliant mind; a brilliant solution to the problem. See Synonyms at intelligent.
This is not what you have shown in this thread.
This is:
Antonyms: normal, typical, uncelebrated
what it is.
===
I'm sure some will find it amusing. I would find it equally distastefull if it were during Clinton's watch and it was him in the picture with Carter.
Edit:
I should have known it would stir up this ruckus, sorry mods. Move this thread if you feel compelled to do so. Sorry for my lapse in judgment.

Should have been in the PL.
You knew it would stir up bad feelings because of your lack of tact and it being an obvious Troll and Bait on your part. Can you be man enough to admit you were trolling with this? You can't honestly think it was amusing can you? That's just idiotic and a lie.

There is more to it than that, if you are in tune with politics, you might get what this is a parody of (see my explanation above).
If you find it off-putting because you are Republican, I'm sorry that you have difficulty laughing at yourself, or being non-partisan for a moment or two. You could put up caricatures of Democrats or any other people all day, as long as it isn't insulting a race or something, I could appreciate all of them.
Do you watch Saturday Night Live? They do all sorts of political caricatures, do they offend you too?
(Sorry if I'm misinterpreting this and you are neither put off nor Republican).

Does ANYONE really think that a President does not work when he's on vacation? (Probably more than the rest of us do on a normal work day.)

Meh, the pic is kinda funny... I mean like quick-breath-out-the-nose funny, but only b/c the the cooky expressions on their faces.
It's just not really time to be making such jokes, whether they apply or not.

Because so many people don't want to take responsibility for their own actions any more. Everyone is a victim.

I mean, for telling the head of FEMA, Mr. Brown (can't remember his first name) that he is doing a "good job", his head must still be in vacation mode.

Point them out. I like the guy, but that doesn't make me Republican.

Telling people to stop playing the "blame game", as many are calling it, seems like a futile battle right now. Both the Right and the Left are pointing fingers left right and center. You can't condemn me for taking cues from what seems to be commonplace now. When will it be appropriate to editorialize?

Actually he did. Ask the governors of Alabama and Mississipi how early BEFORE the storm he offered help. Ask the governor of Louisianna why she didn't have her crap together. Ask the mayor of New Orleans why buses weren't offered to evacuate people.
We are in a federal system. The states are the first responders to such disasters. Might this change going forward? MAYBE. Should it? I don't know. The federal government cannot deploy troops or support until invited by the governor of the state. The national guard reports to the governor of the state when deployed on domestic soil.

Point them out? You were very vehement in jumping all over Sheehan for exercising her first amendment right. I've yet to read a post of yours where you criticize the Right on the many social issues which a Libertarian would, logically speaking, take issue with: the government pushing moral authority with the Terry Schiavo case, stem cells, gay marriage, etc. etc. This ought to be a huge point of contention with you and the Right, is it not?
What do you think the core values of Libertarianism are?

I've already said what it is a parody of above.
Just to not inflame you, I posted my message before this before reading this. I'm not mocking your question asking me if I know what a parody is by asking you if you know what the core values of Libertarianism are.

When there are no more dead bodies floating in the city, when all lost loved ones have been accounted for, when the hundreds of thousands of displaced N.O citizens have some order restored to their lives, and when all the mourning is past, maybe then such a thing might not be considered distasteful.

Please, you knew the kind of reactions you'd get by posting this thread, yet you did it anyway. You've been here since 2001 and you don't yet know the purpose of the political forum or why these kinds of threads ALWAYS bomb in the lounge?
Of course you do, yet you did it anyway. That is trolling whether "officially" labeled or not.
Doesn't really bother me though. I just think it's funny how you expect people to believe your little martyr act.

Whatever, this conversation has been gone over several times already. My only strong opinion here that will be difficult to sway me against is that the federal, local, and state governments all screwed up. The federal government is fair game for criticism, as are the state and local governments. I don't accept skirting all of the blame to somebody else, and I'm not interested in a middle/high-school mentality of "well, Sally is *more* to blame, so yell at her instead!"
If you feel that the Feds aren't deserving of receiving at least *some* heat, I have a hard time getting past the idea that people who think this are apologists emotionally invested in their party.
This is moving off topic though...

Not inflaming me, just the fact that you are so blatantly insensitive makes me wonder if you even care about those people suffering right now. They've lost everything, and you think it is 'brilliant' that someone created this for your amusement.
It's just disgusting, and I'm calling you out on it. You just can't seem to take it as usual, and you resort to your typical responses of trying to turn the tables. Using words like 'inflame' etc. Playing the victim is just worse than simply saying you used bad judgement.
If you wish to pigeonhole me with a monicor, that seems to be a problem, because you can't. I lean different directions on different issues. Do the words "Libertarian with leanings toward conservative" mean anything to you? I'm an issue by issue person. The right person for the job, etc.
Re: Sheehan. She's a real crackpot using her son's death to further her far left beliefs which were directly oposed to his. He was on the record as saying his mother was against what he stood for, but she was entitled to her beliefs, and now she uses his death like a doormat. Again, this is just my opinion. If it makes you respect me less, then I'm ok with that.

I've given up discussing anything with you, you just like to beat things into the ground as aggressively as possible with absolutely no give or take or containment of intensity.
If you could please let me know what all of your nicks are, I'll have the option of ignoring you. My nickname is "besson3c". Thanks!

Budster, if you do not agree with the CORE values of Libertarianism, than how could you call yourself a Libertarian? Would I be a card carrying Mac user if I hated OS X?

More "emotional" terms from you.
"beat things into the ground"
"aggresively"
"containment of intensity"
Come on.

That you began the thread with a picture makes no difference in the ultimate intent to begin a commentary on Katrina's handling. If you try and say otherwise it means you are lying or a moron.

Come on.
I only have one screen name: budster101
Feel free to ignore me, it's up to you. I'll still read your posts and resond as I feel necessary.
Yes, I'm so emotional I was accidently responding to greenamp, when I was really meaning to respond to you.

Suddenly this is not about your lack of taste, but rather if I am a Libertarian or not...
How telling of your typical tactic of passive agressiveness.
You lost me with the OS X parody.

Parodies and caricatures are commentaries, you are right. Thank you, Captain Obvious.
Your mistake was in thinking that I'm asserting what this parody is suggesting. What I happen to think is somewhat irrelevant. I presented this as a parody that I found funny, as in well done - just like a parody of John Kerry wearing flip-flops might be funny (a little too obvious though).

I chuckled as blood dropped to the floor through the crack of my teeth as I clenched them in bitter fury.

This is nothing like John Kerry anything. You must be bitter he lost the election to pull a stunt like this.
There is no comparison, and it is nothing 'brilliant' about it. It's disgusting, typical, and uninspiringly unfunny.
