Im really starting to wonder about the US as a super power

http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/natio...n20050907.html

The two Canadian choppers were sent to help the U.S. Coast Guard off Cape Cod because American officials sent most of their aircraft to the Gulf Coast area to assist with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

Now you’re bitching that too much assistance was sent to the gulf coast? Sheeeeeesh! The hypocrisy of the Katrina whiner crowd is never ending!

What exactly is the big emergency off the coast of Cape Cod, or the big whoop about Canada helping out with it? There doesn't seem to be too much concern in Cape Cod itself that the coast guard is actually volunteering to go where it's needed.

I've not heard about this; what's going on in Cape Cod that requires help? Or are you only just now realizing that the US does not have infinite resources?

We've simply dedicated too much to fighting a 'war on terror' in Iraq.

Now where did I put those WMD?

And imagine the complaining if we hadn't accepted at Cape Cod.

Relief efforts are out number 1 priority. Better short staffed (but not helpless) in Cape Cod, than idle.

I could bring up how many times our local Coast Guard station has done rescues in the Canadian side of the lake, but that would be pretty stupid as the Canadian Coast Guard has probably done an equal amount of rescues on our side. It's called mutual aid, and it's based on the fact that people's lives are more important than trivial notions (in this case) like geographic boundaries. But I'll be sure to bring up the ineffectualness of the Canadian government next time I pick up the paper and read about our local Coasties picking up a couple of stranded boaters off the shore of Gananoque.

And the Canadian military is - literally - bankrupt.

I still don't understand what's going on in Cape Cod. Did something happen there?

True. Friends helping friends. This has been the standard with both Coast Guards for years.

PS...By the way 4 Canadian naval ships and 4 helicopters are on their way to the Gulf Coast as we type. All packed with goodies and stuffs.

If I recall correctly, French AWACS patrolled US skies after 9/11 to relieve US crews.

Allies helping one another isn't a new thing - I'm sure the US has helped Canadian rescue efforts.

It's just one more way in which America's allies are doing their bit.

no im not, I just thought the US had much more resources. Guess Katrina and Iraq are really putting a strain on the Countries resources.
