Is it because he's a democrat perhaps?

It seems he was busy destroying evidence in the FBI probe of his corruption investigation.

He was using federal rescue equipment to get some useless stuff while people were dying.

There's your true democrat for ya.

Military sources tells ABC News that Jefferson, an eight-term Democratic congressman, asked the National Guard that night to take him on a tour of the flooded portions of his congressional district. A 5-ton military truck and a half dozen military police were dispatched.

Lt. Col. Pete Schneider of the Louisiana National Guard tells ABC News that during the tour, Jefferson asked that the truck take him to his home on Marengo Street, in the affluent uptown neighborhood in his congressional district. According to Schneider, this was not part of Jefferson's initial request.

Jefferson defended the expedition, saying he set out to see how residents were coping at the Superdome and in his neighborhood. He also insisted that he did not ask the National Guard to transport him.

"I did not seek the use of military assets to help me get around my city," Jefferson told ABC News. "There was shooting going on. There was sniping going on. They thought I should be escorted by some military guards, both to the convention center the Superdome and uptown."

The water reached to the third step of Jefferson's house, a military source familiar with the incident told ABC News, and the vehicle pulled up onto Jefferson's front lawn so he wouldn't have to walk in the water. Jefferson went into the house alone, the source says, while the soldiers waited on the porch for about an hour.

If true then he should be punished for his inappropriate use of the Guard which, may have contributed to the loss of life. Or, more correctly, the prevention of saving lives.

Your post, and your argument, would have been stronger without the inclusion of partisan comment.

Excellent post as always Mr. Larr. You get it. It has become a partisan argument. All too quick were many ready to point fingers at Bush. Claiming he hates black people. Claiming he authorized the shooting of minorities. Claiming he was not quick to offer aid due to the genetic make-up of New Orleans. If these points are even the least bit true, what of the facts surrounding the Democratic leadership in New Orleans as they were far more nefarious.

I read this article yesterday. Got me angry that tax payer money went to help him get back to his house to remove some stuff. They said they "resucued" quite a few people there." While that is a good thing why was the guard used to help him get to his house?

They failed to state in this particular article that one of the trucks was stuck in debris and had to be rescued itself on this excursion.

I want to know why HE was allowed to get his posessions and the regular people were allowed their homes to be looted.

I'm with you, porieux. Throw in Bush and all the other politicians who divert resources by touring the area for photo-ops.

So far he's changed his story three times. None of his stories make any logical sense, so I presume he's lying.

-and, it goes without saying, he is blaming the Republicans.

He'll be doing jailtime soon enough. Cash in his freezer, illegal deals with Nigerian officials, etc.

I always wonder, do these people really think no ones gonna notice, or no ones gonna care?

I'm not going the say republican politicians are perfect but after just the headline I took a guess that this guy was a democrat. Go figure I was right.

So far it appears that Louisiana has no elected officials that aren't inept. The same was true in the mid to late 70's when I lived there.

Do you remember watching Senator and Mrs Lott of Mississippi flown by chopper to their devastated property?
