Is Burger King halal? No. So what the hell has it got to do with muslims? Really.

It no more resembles the Arabic for Allah than the man in the moon. This is getting beyond ridiculous.
Burger King should have told them exactly where to stick it.

You read Arabic? I read it as Allah before I took a look at the text next to it and I'm not even especially good at reading Arabic.
What's your problem with them showing some respect to the Muslim community?

"Respect" my left buttcheek. It looks exactly like a cone of soft-serve ice cream.
It dosen't particulalry shock me that you would insist you read "Allah."
If you can show me a sample of Arabic in a different form that actually looks like that packaging, I would change my mind, but I see no resemblance whatsoever.
I don't see any business removing Stars of David or Crosses, et. al. because they are "offensive" to Jews or Christians. Or any other religious symbolism. I guess every picture of a fat man now offends Buddhists?
Get real.
The plain fact seems to be that some Muslims spend every waking hour looking for a reson to be offended.
The real reason Burger King pulled it is that the last thing they want is some "Jihadist" to come in the front door with a bomb strapped to his @ss. Or cause another riot over nothing that gets people killed.

That goes both ways. He could have just notified Burger King about the resemblance before organizing a boycott and calling that "his jihad".

Are you sure about that number? IIRC Icecream is halal. And many other items on their menu are halal as well.
And no, we won't demand that McDonals takes bacon off the menu. It isn't blasphemy or offensive. We just skip the meals with bacon on them.

Reminds me of the scene in "Life of Brian" where they want to stone a man simply because he said "that pot roast was good enough for Jehovah."
Thank the Lord that Christians and Jews have a sense of humor, unlike some people we could name.

To you it does. But that's understandable because you don't read Arabic. Check out the example you gave in the first post.
It dosen't particulalry shock me that you would insist you read "Allah."

You already did that in the first post. If you can't see it out of that there is only one reason for it. But I'll let you figure out the reason for yourself.
I don't see any business removing Stars of David or Crosses, et. al. because they are "offensive" to Jews or Christians. Or any other religious symbolism. I guess every picture of a fat man now offends Buddhists?
Get real.
And that's none of my business. If you (Christians, Jews and Buddhists) want to have those symbols on things like icecream it's fine by me.
The plain fact seems to be that some Muslims spend every waking hour looking for a reson to be offended.
Looked in the mirror lately?
The real reason Burger King pulled it is that the last thing they want is some "Jihadist" to come in the front door with a bomb strapped to his @ss. Or cause another riot over nothing that gets people killed.
If you would have even a little knowledge about Islam you would understand that Jihad doesn't mean that. That's just your version of Islam. Sort of like OBL's version.

I agree about all you say except the last part. The last part ("his jihad") would be the correct term for the first part of your post.

While at first glance there is a general resemblance after about 10 seconds of close looking it becomes quite apparent the two are not that similar. It's a tempest in a teapot if you ask me. Like somebody elses said, this guy is out there looking for ways to be offended.

They did that one already... ...remember the Miss World contest which sparked riots and about a hundred dead because some guy said of the contestants: "They're so lovely that mohammed would be pleased to marry them".
That reminds me. I must go flush a koran down the toilet. Back soon.

I would if the label said "Allah". I'd be offended if it said "Allah" on an icecream. But I'm happy that this Muslim brother of mine brought attention to it (not saying I agree with how he did it). And I'm happy with BK for showing the respect to withdraw it and to decide to find another logo to put on it.

The "swirl" is different depending on the calligrapher in Arabic. It's the general form that matters. And it simply reads "Allah". Which is offensive to Muslims to have on an icecream.
(perhaps I also need to remind you that Arabic is read from right to left).

But it doesn't say "Allah". Unless the orientation of the script in Arabic is un-important the swirls in the ice cream are curled opposite the lines in the character/term for Allah. So, while there may be a similarity the ice cream doesn't say Allah.
Or, am I completely missing somethign about how the Arabic language is written and the swirls of the ice cream in the logo ARE the Arabic term for Allah. While I see a similarity--only at first glance--I don't see any sort of equivalence. This is not like the Nike shoe issue from a few years back where the Air logo on the sneakers WAS formed just like the Arabic character/term for "Allah". That was obvious.

Jihad is a complex term. I have my own personal Jihad's. Several of them each day. Some are against my own "devils" like anger, frustration, etc etc. Some are against injustices. Jihad isn't what OBL and the Western media has painted it as.

(perhaps I also need to remind you that Arabic is read from right to left).
So the term in the right-hand picture above is read as "Allah" regardless of the orientation of the curl of the vertical lines? Interesting! I knew Arabic was a right-to-left language I didn't know it was so orthographically flexible.
So, what part of the assemblage of lines and swirls/curls must be fixed and what part can be modified and have the character/term still mean "Allah"? Do you have other examples of the term written with different orthographic styles? That would be interesting to see.

Some folks get offended too easily. I guess it's all that straining their eyes trying to make out the difference between their texts and pictures of everyday objects.

Yes, you are certainly within your rights to flush a Koran down the toilet in the UK, Sherwin. Would you be offended if someone made a similar comment about the Bible?
Or, are there no religious texts you view as sacred and worthy of respectful treatment?

You are probably just misunderstanding how the Arabic script is written. But at least you argue it from that POV instead of the same POV as Doofy and Macrobat.
A good example of how differently Allah is written is to just to a google image search for "arabic allah". There you'll see how differently it is written. The direction "swirls" themselves are not that important.

You're an idiot. Or, at least, you're trying to sound like one.
You're making the same mistakes ass holes like UBL make: lumping everyone of a faith into one group.
There are plenty of peaceful, good Muslims just as there are plenty of peaceful, good people of other faiths. And there are murderous scum who profess to be Muslim just as there are murderous scum who profess to be Christian (or any other faith).

Even though we are all just "virtual" on this board, the other people on this board are worthy of somewhat respectful treatment. We shouldn't insult each other here. If we're flushing Korans and Bibles I think we should just do it privately and not talk about it.

Yep. But this is not an isolated incident here. Almost weekly some muslim is offended by something and we have to bend over backwards to accommodate (with the reverse never being true).

Hmmm... ...I was under the impression that the handwriting of Allah wasn't open to "different" writing stylisation and that you placed much emphasis on the visual form of the scripts.
Admit it - this guy just did this to annoy the rest of us, to make a point without having to blow himself up in London.

If you mean me, you'll notice that my comments are directly related to the thread topic (people being offended by things). Think about it.
