Reduce online readership by serving up Krugman et.al for $50 bucks a year then
then decrease morale by firing 4% of your support staff. Sounds like a real plan.
It appears the the accountants don't read the Editorial or the Op Ed's either.

I had no idea the NYT had 12,500 employees! Wow. It sure seems excessive. 4% sounds like a good start for the crap they publish.

You have to consider the entire corporation - there is the paper, there's the Sunday magazine which is itself a stand alone publication worthy of an entire staff, there are the crossword puzzles and other books and there are probably other business ventures that don't have NYT in their name but are part of the corporation. All the same, 12,500 seems to be overkill.
I work in publishing and we porduce 28 magazines on monthly, bimonthly and weekly basis and our staff is around 450.
