:If it wasn't for religion and politics, we'd roll our eyes? Personally, those are the two topics that usually make me roll my eyes.

. . . we'd have nothing to talk/fight about.
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

We'd find other reasons to argue, among which:

sex
"race"
preferences
decisions
child rearing
etc.

Human nature is a mix of competition and cooperation. When personal benefit is the goal, both strategies will come in place at various degrees to achieve the objectives that are oriented to the individual's satisfaction.

Arguing over beliefs is one of the ways to gain control, take the upper ground until total conquest.

I mean, I wish you'd understand what I mean; the view from up here is most excellent and there is nothing to block it.

"Criticism is a misconception: we must read not to understand others but to understand ourselves.”

Religion - the theological framework in which we live our lives, both individual and collectively.

With all the killing that has occured and continues to occur in the name of religion I wouldn't be so quick to associate religion with providing humans a moral code. Besides, you can be a-religious or a-theistic and still be a moral human being.

Didn't take long for the first bit of mud. Can you corrupt religion, yes you can. Can you corrupt politics, yes you can.
