Ok, canucks...we have been doing fairly well lately and the flaming has been kept to a minimum. I can keep it that way, can you? I have three questions, because the current discussion about softwood industry has peaked my interest.

So here are three questions,

1. Who do you consider to be the top 3 Prime Ministers in Canadian history?

2. Who are the three most prominent figures in Canadian history?

3. What are the 3 most pressing issues you face, as Canadians today?

Thanks

But am I trying to influence your domestic policy? Am I debating a domestic issue that only effects canuks? Forgive me for trying to remove the idea of Canada being significant from my mind.

I knew you canadians couldn;t go without flaming. How is it you fly under the radat so much when your attitudes are so shitty?

Is it even possible to have a civil conversation with canadians? Canadians pride themselves in knowing so much (or thinking they do) about the US...yet they refuse to share anything about themselves with the world...as if it is a great secret that there really is nothing in Canada but an interest in America.

Even funnier, did you know they have a law where foreignors can't voice an opinion about Canadian elections.

What the hell!

Maybe his secret fascination with/attraction to Bob Dole? Must have been the Viagra commercials.

Hmmm.... You know, you may just have hit the nail on the head there. Rolling Bones must be really conflicted over this. I could feel sorry for someone in that situation but... ...umm... ...no - Bob is a fine figure of a man and it's largely inevitable that Rolling Bones would feel this way. I guess he'll just have to hide his Bob photos when his Lib friends come round.

I am game.

So here are three questions,
Yeah! Let's hear it!

1. Who do you consider to be the top 3 Prime Ministers in Canadian history?
Trudeau was one with a great influence.
MacKenzie as well.
Laurier.

2. Who are the three most prominent figures in Canadian history?
Alexander Graham Bell
Dr Penfield
Marc Garneau

3. What are the 3 most pressing issues you face, as Canadians today?
Children poverty
Weak military
Quality of living of First Nations and Inuit

Thanks
These are tough choices; I could have added more.

As if calling us canucks first off wouldn't amount to a flame war. Come on, try harder colton.

Pendergast, I'm from Gretzky, Pauline Johnson, Phil Hartmans and James Hilliers home town - Brantford, also where Bell invented the telephone. What a wonderfull city I live in to have so many greats come from here Oh, and also of note - this was where the great native leader Joseph Brant forded the Grand and set up his 'colony' - which is why my city's called 'Brantford'

I am from Manicouagan V. The place lasted 6 years.

The only famous person from that place is still to be discovered. As far as I can remember, 20 kids were born there, 2 of which are probably dead today. The only famous thing about it is that there is a crater that's 185 millions years old, and the biggest arch dam in the world.

Glad you are from a famous place kmkkid!

Hmm.. I thought the general consensus was that Canuck wasn't a derogatory term. Maybe you should have a word with the Vancouver Canucks.

Try again?

It's derogatory when it's meant to be derogatory, as colton implies with his feelings towards canadians.

Alexander Graham Bell
Dr Penfield
Marc Garneau
Thank you...never knew of Penfield.

Thanks. you know...you responded, I googled, I learned. very interesting and I respect all of your answers. I learned a lot from just a few answers. If you want to add more, please do.

Incidently, I asked because I wanted to know what figures and moments in Canadian history inspire your way of thinkning and culture. It is easy ro say that Canada is just like the US, but it isn't.

When I can think of a way to say where I am confused (about you canadians) without being offensive...I will.

Thanks again pendegrast

Only men? Canada had a female Prime Minister as well. She wasn't elected (the office was handed to her when Mulroney quit), she was only PM for a short period and she played a role in destroying the federal Conservative Party, but she was still a PM.

Only from an American perspective and likely only because he helped create NAFTA (). He wasn't terribly popular in Canada and played a significant role in the downfall of the federal Conservative Pary.

If you want to give credit to saving our economy, you shoud be giving the nod to Chretien and Paul Martin, though I see where you are coming from in saying that free trade was an element to the salvation to Canada's economy. However, there were many states moving forward with noeliberal trade policies in the 80s and I'm not sure that Mulroney should be given a lot of credit for his efforts. He failed miserably in many other areas and did not bring Canada out of debt regardless of the free trade efforts.

*edit* I would like to say that Trudeau certainly ranks above Mulroney especially given that Canada's current Charter of Rights exists largely in part due to his efforts.

CBC did a national show last year (or was it this year?) on the topic "who was the greatest Canadian?" People from Canada voted each week, after watching a bio on that weeks nominee.

The website for it is here:

http://www.cbc.ca/greatest/

This was the top 10 (in no particular order):

Frederick Banting - The man who discovered insulin

Alexander Graham Bell

Don Cherry (yes, a hockey dude)

Tommy Douglas - The man who invented our free health care system

Terry Fox - If you don't know: http://www.terryfoxrun.org/english/home/default.asp?s=1

Wayne Gretzky (yes, another hockey dude)

Sir John A. Macdonald - our founding father

Lester B. Pearson - Invented peacekeeping, amongst other things

David Suzuki

Pierre Trudeau

Others in the top 100 included:

GENERAL ROMÉO DALLAIRE

SIR SANDFORD FLEMING (Invented standard time)

JOHN MCCRAE (author of "In Flander's field")

Nope. But it starts with the French.

Then a Canadian implemented it IIRC.

Any way, that is probably one of the most important.

That one make me really very proud as a Canadian.

Next, you said in the other thread you were the exact opposite of hot* notloc.

Finally, maybe he's put you on ignore!

Does it matter what we say? You are clearly looking for ammo to support your pre-existing beliefs. You couldn't be more transparent.
