"LAST BEST CHANCE" showings on HBO.

Tonight at 8 p.m., HBO will begin airing our movie Last Best Chance. It will replay on HBO on October 23 at 10:00 a.m., and air on HBO2 on October 19 at 10 p.m., October 27 at 11 p.m. and October 30 at 10:15 p.m.

Last Best Chance was created as a way to build increased awareness of the threat of nuclear terrorism. We are thrilled that millions of Americans will have the opportunity to learn about this issue over the next few weeks, but know that the real challenge will be keeping this issue in the public eye. This is not an easy task, but it is achievable with your help.

I’d like you to consider inviting your family, friends and neighbors to join you in watching Last Best Chance on HBO and follow it with a conversation about the nuclear terrorism threat. To help, we have developed an online discussion guide with Frequently Asked Questions about the threat. In the discussion guide you will also find suggestions for ways to further raise public awareness in your own community.

Even if you can’t have a viewing party, you can help us build a wide audience for the film by telling your friends to tune in tonight.

Thank you for helping us advance this important work – stimulating governments all over the world to secure and lock down nuclear, biological and chemical weapons and materials at their source. Together we must build a safer world.

PS. Don't forget to read The New Yorker's recent column on Last Best Chance.
I'm in favor of everyone watching it.
Give petty people just a little bit of power and watch how they misuse it! You can't silence the self doubt, can you?

I'm in favor of everyone re-watching "Die Hard." It's probably just as relevant.

Besides, we already had that god-awful movie adaptation of "The Sum of All Fears." And "The Peacemaker." Three movies about nuclear terrorism within the last 10 years is just too much.

EDIT: Just thought of yet another blockbuster movie about governments not sufficiently locking-down WMDs: "The Rock." Gosh, I'm glad these "Last Best Chance" people managed to stumble on this terrorism issue before everyone completely forgot about it.

Here's a review of the film by the New Yorker (a liberal magazine),

http://www.newyorker.com/printables/...talk_hertzberg

Dear readers, please take note of the individuals who have chosen to dismiss any serious contemplation of what is a frighteningly too real threat...that of nuclear terrorism in the US.

These posters don't want you to think about the possibility of al qaeda nukes slipping into the US and being detonated.

Why?

JUST WHAT KIND OF JERK:

SAYS they love Americans.

Admits to making sure he is not being mistaken for an American when traveling.
Is oblivious of the sacrifices made to keep him and his country solvent by assuring oil continues to power HIS and other western economies.

Bitches and whines at the loss of Iraqi lives (many who want him DEAD and who were trying - often successfully - to kill Americans who are dying for HIM) in trying to keep America strong.

In a position out of danger from any possible terrorist nuclear detonation, pooh poohs the threat to those who might be in the bulls-eye?

Only a stupid, mean spirited girly-assed punk retarded suck butt jerk would do such a thing.

And if the shoe fits any readers here then they should shove it up their ass.

If it doesn't, then I want anyone who MIGHT do such a thing to understand that they are disgusting and disgustingly stupid.

To anyone who is unsure of what it's like to be a Christian, consider this.

In a way it's like pimps and ho's.

If you got a ho you want to pimp her out but you might not have strong enough game. And even though you may WANT to mac her out and havin a good bottom woman can make your fortune, you have your good days and you have days when the mac is weak.

As a Christian you want to live up to the highest ideals such as those in the Bible. Some days you are better at it than on other days. Even though you know it is your salvation, you struggle with it because you are human.

And anyone who criticizes the life is a trick, baby!

Weird isn't it? How people can be warmongers, yet Christian, or peaceniks, yet heathens.

I wonder who Jesus would prefer to hang with.

If you are going to try to hold Christians up to scrutiny go ahead just as long as you know it makes you look like your face aches.

Jesus loves BOTH, equally.

Come on, now. I wasn't dismissing the threat. I was just saying that it's been talked about before. A lot. I had a class about it a couple years ago, at a bastion-of-leftism university of all things.

A warmonger is not Christian; at best a warmonger is a hypocrite.

But then, what is a warmonger? What is a peacenik? In this day and age I you'd be hard-pressed find a sane person alive, even in the most hawkish recesses of the Bush Administration, who wants or likes war. Even in older, bloodier times, it might be easier but it still wouldn't be easy, by any stretch of the imagination. There are few enough actual lovers of war out there that even if they all got together it would be a pretty pathetic fight. So if most people hate war, then why does war exist? Simple: because people believe that it has to be done. Does this make them warmongers? Does merely thinking that a war is worthwhile make someone a lover of war?

Seriously, there are a lot of people here who need to watch Gundam Wing. It's anime, but it actually manages to take a very serious look at the institution of war from numerous points in the spectrum, from a pacifist queen who surrenders her entire nation to aggressors rather than fight them all the way up -the stereotypical "peacenik"- to a general who believes that war is the ultimate expression of the human spirit: the stereotypical "warmonger". Take it as a serious work, rather than simple entertainment, and you might be surprised at what you find.

Thanks for clarifying my perception. Your exception to my suspicions are noted!

Do you recognize we are currently in a time window when nuclear terrorism is thought by some to be highly likely?

Have we as a people had a public discourse on this subject, yet?

What WOULD we as a people want to do if any of our cities were nuked?

What did the class consensus suggest?

WOW!

For months and months I have been looking for a discussion of what might be if a TRULY Christian government turned the other cheek and allowed PEACE to reign. It always seemed to me that the nation would be overwhelmed and we would be made captive in the way that France was by the Germans.

I will Google Gundam Wing (I've seen the name before by didn't really know what it was. Thanks for the info!).

Millennium--
Seriously, there are a lot of people here who need to watch Gundam Wing.
Gundam Wing? Ugh. The UC Gundam series are better and Gundam 0083 could be appropriate here. Still, if we're looking at relevant anime, the second Patlabor movie is all about terrorism and reactions thereto. Excellent movie, although a bit slow.

True. The French make better Christians.

You lot aren't Christians. Not even close.

You are either trying to say that Christian = Captive

Or in essence, "your mother wears Army boots...Nyah, nyah, nyah, nayh, nyah! "

OR, you are trying to lure me into behaving (on your command) as you suppose a Christian might/should when they are behaving like a Christian.

Here's a better way to find out. Read the Bible. Ask a friend to invite you to church. Much better way of going about it. THEN, from that perspective you'll see things here in common and casual behavior you NEVER would have picked up before. And NO, I can't tell you what they are. Once you find them then YOU can tell everyone here what you noticed.
